How To Apply

The curriculum consists of a sequence of studio and academic courses that develop a core of concepts and a common language with which to express their ideas about artistic learning visually and verbally. and understandings. 1) re-visit familiar art materials and discover their potential as vehicles for learning and building blocks of creative expression. 2) children and adolescents are active constructors of their own knowledge, whose understanding of the representational task itself changes over time and with experience 3) art making involves the creation of meaning from actual or virtual experience, personal or cultural conventions.

The program in art education is designed to accommodate students who have family and/or professional responsibilities. Studio courses are offered year round, including the summer when students often find that they can devote more time to their own artwork. A sequence of education courses in contemporary educational theory, artistic development (K-12), visual culture, instructional methods, curriculum design and independent research is offered in the evening during the school year. Most students complete their programs in two years, however individuals are free to set their own pace for progressing through the program.
