InPrison Community Bible Study Policy Guidelines
|
An "Every Person's" Bible Study: "The mission of Community Bible Study is to make disciples of Jesus Christ in our communities - through caring, in-depth Bible
studies available to aIl." From the beginning of the class, it is important to emphasize that CBS
is interdenominational. Many Christians, from many denominations around the world.. have been
enriched by this study.
|
The students who benefit from this study vary widely in terms of previous Bible knowledge. Anyone who wants to learn the Word of God and understand how it applies to his life is
encouraged to enroll. In fact, the bringing together of Christ's Church in its various forms and levels of maturity gives strength to both the program and to the fellowship.
A true sense of community results from having a theological climate where unity, rather than doctrinal distinctions, is emphasized. CBS is where people may meet, feel accepted, and be
accepting as - together - they study God's Holy Word.
|
| Maintaining the Unity of Your Class: One of the most exciting aspects of the class is
that people with such varied backgrounds come together in oneness in Christ to study His Word. This will not be possible unless the leadership understands that although individuals may all hold
to particular biases in doctrines, the only essential truth is the gospel: "that Christ died for
our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures," (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). Therefore, CBS stands firm on Christ and Him crucified (1 Corinthians 2:2).
This does not mean that we hold loosely to those things we believe to be important about our faith-we just do not insist that others think exactly as we do. As the Scriptures are faithfully taught week after week, the Holy Spirit will change hearts and minds to understand the truth. Ephesians 4:1-6 is our model: "I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit-just as you were called to one hope when you were called-one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God
and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in aIl." The Teaching Director may teach his/her own interpretation as Bible passages are studied, but should give credence to other
viewpoints.
|
The Manual: The policies and procedures detailed within the Manual were developed to help your class succeed. When followed in faith, they have proven fruitful. God has chosen to bring growth, both numerically and spiritually, to our classes.
If at any time the Manual does not adequately answer a question you may have, please consult the National Director of In Prison CBS. We are always open to constructive suggestions for
improvement of this Manual. Your input is appreciated. |
Requests to Use Material: CBS Lessons that are copyrighted can be reproduced for InPrison CBS classes. It is important that no one use CBS material unless they are an official
CBS class. InPrison CBS classes usually receive one copy of the materials, which they then duplicate. Most CBS Condensed Lessons (used for InPrison CBS) are also available in Spanish. Please contact the National Director for information concerning Spanish translations.
No one is able to purchase CBS material-it is not for sale but is available weekly to registered
active class members. It's In the Book material is available to those who are not able to attend a CBS class and may be purchased from the National Service Center. |
