InPrison CBS Leadership Roles

Community Bible Study is a servant-led ministry. The Servants Team (volunteer leadership team) is the model of shepherding, shared leadership, and accountability. The class and its leadership will reflect the example set by the Servants Team. The leadership roles in InPrison CBS include, as a minimum, a Teaching Director and an Associate Teaching Director. In addition an Administrator, and a Prayer and Worship Coordinator are most useful. Whenever possible the team also needs inmate core group facilitators, if the institution will allow. All the "outside" volunteers make up the "Servants Team" designed to seek God's will and way for the class through prayer and mutual support.

Teaching Director (TD): The role of the Teaching Director may best be summarized by saying that the Teaching Director is a teacher with a "shepherd's heart." He or she shepherds the leadership team and class; gives the "talk" or lecture at least 60% of the time; trains and leads Core Group facilitators through the Bible Study Questions; is the leader and spokesman for the class; is main liaison with the warden, chaplain and other prison officials; is the liaison with the InPrison CBS shepherding network.

Associate Teaching Director (A TD): Shares the leadership and teaching responsibility of the TD (may give the "talk" 40% of the time); leads the Core Group Facilitators through the Questions when the TD is absent or when the ATD is giving the talk; helps train and shepherd Core Group Facilitators and Associate Facilitators as they are added to the leadership team; oversees the class when the TD is absent; maintains good relationships with prison officials.

Administrator: Makes certain supplies (lessons, brochures, etc.) are available; keeps attendance records; oversees registration of new members; may be called on to facilitate a Core Group or give the lecture when needed.

Prayer and Worship Coordinator: Responsible for overseeing and/or planning Praise and Worship time each week; shepherds class members who may serve as Praise Leaders; makes certain that audio equipment is available and working; keeps a record of class members' prayer requests; leads class in corporate prayer time when appropriate.
