There is an exquisite, well-moneyed side of music that is full of grace and listening calm. Neurosphinx music has more
in common with the Dervishes. Historically, some classical music led to riots and political sedition. Stravinsky's _Rite
of Spring and American free jazz were considered shocking and pornographic. Swing and burlesque turned it up a bit. "Rock
and roll" was coined in 1931 in a song where it was a synonym for "bump and grind". Electric guitars started getting loud,
until Saint Elvis blew everything away by getting totally loose. Patsy Cline not standing perfectly still was considered loose
for a woman. The Animals started howling and jumping around in black and white with "House of the Rising Sun". The MC5 became
noisier American animals and worked with the White Panthers. Iron Butterfly brought the term "heavy metal" and Black Sabbath
coughed out the first thick distortion. Venom invented "black metal" where they broke from a straight blues form and comitted
to totally insane noise. Since then, bands have done better recordings with faster notes, but nothing has really been added
and no one really steals the fire of Venom, who are still active. I discovered Venom when they were a fresh band, travelling
over 100 miles to get the record, I was the only one in my area to hail them, even as Slayer and Mercyful Fate came out, Voivod
and Hellhammer, Sodom, these were primarily following Venom's ideal. "Death Metal" release came on Noise Records in 1984,
although Possessed had that name for a song in the previous year.
Our music is a continuation of the same, only I don't feel the need to do destructive and dangerous things to live it out,
as if life were a movie, where the dead wash off their blood and go home for supper. The war is the conflicts of life and
fought in your head. Keep it there. Karate ni sentei nishi -- "there is no first strike in karate". In this way, the Serapeum
is a battle ground of thoughts, good or otherwise, a temple of peace achieved not through pacifism, but through direct conflict.
