The Hawaiian lineage of our family has deep roots at Hamakuapoko, Maui at Maliko Bay, as well as, in Nahiku, Hana, Lahaina, Pauwela, and Pa'ia, Maui. Prior to the 1946 tidal wave, the family gravesites were located at Maliko Bay but all the gravesite markings were washed away during that time.  Great-great-grandparents Ha'o & Mia, and great-granparents Keakua and Ka'aimoku (before 1890) were said to be buried there.  Family roots also trace back to Oahu, Moloka'i, and the Big Island of Hawaii  prior to the 1900s. The trail becomes obscured further past the 1800s. David Kekua was the son of "Keakua" and married Kailiino Kawahahee during the mid 1800s. Kailiino was previously married to "Kakaio" and had four children from that marriage, one of which was named "Emma/Emmaline". Their appears to be other documented marriages as well. David Kekua and Kailiino divorced in 1881 and David Kekua died November 10, 1882. The family was very actively involved with the Pa'ia Hawaiian Protestant Church.

Kekua's son Beni died five months after his father in April 1883 at the age of 17.  William and Alexander were both legally adopted by C. Farden. William was born in 1861 and adopted March 1863 at the age of two (William's biological father may have been William George Needham; more data needed). Alexander was born March 1869 and adopted September 1869. Abigaila(w) was hanai to Kaniela(k) "a widower". Wainee(w) was hanai to Lahela(w) & Amau ("a Chinaman") two months after her birth and living at Pa'ia, Maui. The son of Kailiino named Charles Kekua Farden (b. 1871) bio-father Christopher Farden ( or Johann Christoph Jardin) remained with Kekua and Kailiino in Pa'ia, Maui.  Charles Farden attended Punahou and witnessed the overthrow of Queen Liliuokalani in Honolulu, Hawaii.  After graduation, Charles returned to Maui and met Annie Shaw when she was attending Maunaolu Seminary.  They married after Annie graduated from Maunaolu Seminary and relocated to Lahaina, Maui in the late 1890's where Charles was to be the Luna at Pioneer Mill.
