| In Nova Roma, the Censors are charged with admissions to and from; and the management of the Ordo Equester. (Equestrian Order of Knights.) The Ordo in Nova Roma varies from that present in antiqua in that any citizen of Nova Roma may apply to the order. In turn, those accepted to the Ordo Equester are allowed to 'set up shop' or establish a virtual store front in the Macellum -Nova Roma's market place. Roman-themed goods are bought and sold through the Macellum and in return for the privilege of admittance to the Ordo; the Knight must return a portion of his or her profit to the state treasury. The Macellum provides benefit to both parties -the seller enjoys the opportunity of a 'made to order market' for his or her goods and the state receives rent for the use of the store front. It is incumbent upon the Censores to not only select members of the Ordo with extreme care (after all, these merchants represent Nova Roman interests to the world,) but also to watch over the Macellum and the efforts of the purveyors of goods to ensure that they are serving their customers in a professional and timely manner. If complaints are received by the Censores office from dissatisfied customers of Macellum merchants, the Censores may censure that individual, issue an official warning; or in extreme circumstances eject the individual from the Ordo if the conduct is severe enough.
To join the Ordo Equester, one must be a Nova Roman citizen in good standing (i.e. not of a urban tribe) and complete an application. The form may be submitted either electronically and e-mailed to the Censores or it may be printed and snail mailed to the Censores at the following address:
