files
Download Beta 1.02 vidplay.zip
(129,545 bytes, version from June 19, 1998).
Full documentation is not available yet, but control buttons'
and other controls' names are self-explanatory.
After you launch the program, add your AVI files to the list
("Add AVI file" button). Set in- and out-points. Click
"PLAY THE SEQUENCE" button. Click "Play"
(triangle) button in the dialog.
Some special features: AVI and playlist (PLS) files can also
be entered in command line. Windows 95 shortcuts are also
accepted! If /play option specified in the
command line, only playback dialog will be shown (in this case,
files must be specified in command line). If /close
option is specified along with /play, the
program will close after finishing playing.
Double click on title bar will auto-size the movie preview
window and the dialog.
Known problems:
- when playback is paused, current position edit box does
not always show correct position;
- cannot open multiple shortcuts to AVI files through
"Open file" dialog envoked by "Add AVI
file" button;
- cannot play AVI file containing uncompressed bitmaps, if
the data chunks contain incomplete frames. The system may
stop responding;
- audio volume changing is not working, use Windows 95
mixer application instead;
- AVI file buffer size is fixed to 6 Mbytes for playback
and 3 Mbytes for preview;
- help file is not available.
This freeware version is limited to playing back up to 3 files
in sequence.
Latest changes:
June 19:
- unfortunately, a bug was introduced in previous version,
making it unable to set in point, if out point is not
last but one frame of the file. Because of this bug,
audio stream size correction didn't work. The problem is
fixed now;
- now, if audio device isn't available, the program will
play the file, with no sound;
- fixed a problem: some last 20 frames of a file or
sequence were not played back to TV output, both in
preview mode and sequence playback;
- fixed problems with playback of empty frames.
June 17, 1998:
- "READY TO PLAY" button renamed to "PLAY
THE SEQUENCE";
- AVI file properties are displayed;
- audio stream size is automatically corrected to match
video frame count and if it is not multiple of audio
block size (fixed a problem with wrong audio stream size
in some AVI files, which caused audio noise in files
after the first one).
