"Real Men Read"
|
Founded in 1995 in New York City, the Gay Men's Book Crisis is
dedicated to reading the world's great fiction, one book at a time. Our boys are not afraid of Virginia Woolf. We're fools for
Faulkner. We've even braved Beckett.
We tend to read the tough stuff, the
industrial-strength giants of the canon. And rather than focus exclusively on titles by
gay and lesbian authors, we have a habit of being a bit more inclusive - and wildly
eclectic.
We meet on the third Tuesday of each month for
about an hour, randomly rotating apartments on a completely voluntary basis. We discuss
the month's title for an hour while enjoying wine and hors d'oeuvres, then adjourn for
dinner at a restaurant near the host's apartment.
Every six months we nominate and select the
reading list for the next six months. Each member suggests two or three titles. There is
only one real rule: all books must be available in paperback.
Members: Steve, Brad, Bill,
Bob S., Bob B., Chris, Gary, Kenneth, Stewart, Michael, Jim, and Willard.
