Display their Creations by Elaine Levy An ongoing show on campus not to be missed is the two person show currently on display at the CSUS Art Gallery. This strong and very contemporary show of artwork by Alan Daniel and Leigh Hartman is in the current mainstream of art being shown in San Francisco and Los Angeles. The show, which consists of etchings, paintings, drawings, lithography and other art forms runs from April 28th through May 2nd. The mark of spontaneous and energetic creation is ever present in Hartman's artwork (as in all good artwork), and so is the conviction that individually often follows patterns (indeed, as does all good artwork). Her proficiency in drawing cannot be overlooked as it is willfully and powerfully channeled to produce visually striking and mentally stimulating pieces of art. Especially strong in composition and proficient in the use of color, Leigh Hartman creates artwork that would be a good investment for the budding and serious art collector. (Ms. Hartman has already won a first-place award in contemporary graphics at the Monterey County Art Show.) Equally visually stunning is the work of Alan Daniel. Also reflective of the contemporary scene, Mr. Daniel's work reflects not so much the repetition of individuals as the surreal-like fantasies of a single individual. Some of Mr. Daniel's work started with staging and photographing scenes, an extension of documentation of performance art. Particularly original and striking are the "Bo Derek Head" series, which evolved from a series of alterations to a photograph of Bo Derek. *One of Mr. Daniel's prints was accepted for exhibition in an NCA show held at Cal Expo in Nov., 1979. Both Ms. Hartman and Mr. Daniel are printmaking
certificate candidates at CSUS and will be on hand for conversations with
the artists between 10 am and 1 pm on Wed., Apr. 30, in the CSUS Art Gallery.
