MY TRIBE IS MY FAMILY
Really, I mean it. I feel more at ease with them than I do with any other subset of the human race. Everyone in the group that loosely associates as "The Palm Springs Flaggots" are saints. They put up with me, and that will get you lots of punches on your Karma Card.
Seriously, I love them all. And that is what makes flagging with them so good. I'm wrapped in a safe and supportive cocoon. Free to let go and enjoy the physical and emotional trip that Flag Dancing can be.
Along with the tribe, another part of that envelope that protects me is the Club that we dance in. Heaven, in Palm Springs, California, USA, is a wonderful place for flagging or fanning. They have a wonderful modular stage that they let us use as a playpen. It has black-lights over-head, and the music is great. And the obligatory Go-Go Boys appear on holiday weekends. They also use the stage for Cabaret performances and concerts, no Karaoke though (damn!).
The dance floor usually opens at 11:00 pm on Friday and Saturday nights. And Heaven is an after-hours bar, serving water and juice after 2:00 am until 4:00 am so you can dance all night if you want to. When you come to Palm Springs, be sure to spend an evening or two in Heaven.
As I mentioned before, we are a friendly bunch, and love to have members of the larger tribe join us. You can never have enough silk in the air!
We also enjoy showing "flaglings" how to spin. If you show up early, while the dance floor is relativley open, we will usually be glad to show you how to work the flags. Of course, we are only human. If we have had a "bad day," please understand if we aren't overtly perky when you ask. We still love you.
