Ever since Aaron
could remember, he has always wanted to play the drums. He recalls, “The first drum solo I heard was on Iron Butterfly’s
In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida performed by Ron Bushy…man that floored me…I
was around 6 years old. Shortly after that, I saw Michael Shrieve with Santana on the legendary Soul Sacrafice tune on
the Woodstock Documentary. I knew that the drums were for me after that!”
Aaron was born
in East Los Angeles.
He has been a native of Southern California living there his entire life. His musical training started
at the age of six with the guitar, then the trumpet, and then the piano, and finally the accordion, none of which he mastered
nor remotely knows how to play currently. Drums and percussion finally appeared when he was 12 years old and when he had enough
money, and courage, to buy and bring a drum set home, without the permission of his parents, he began playing his
true love. His parents looked at him astonished, but when he sat behind the drum set for the first time and began playing
as if he had been playing for years, they knew that was the instrument for him and left him alone. He began studying with
the likes of Eric Mosenberg and with the great Ed Shaughnessy, of Tonight Show fame, for several years who taught him how to swing in a big band and “feel the
music”.
After high
school, Aaron continued studying with Ed Shaughnessy, but also began playing with various jazz, top 40 and cover bands and landed several
recording gigs for commercials and documentaries, that included projects with National Geographic, The
Wrigley Company and other well know companies. The first original project began in 1983 with the band The Cry. Since
then Aaron has performed in various live situation including countless gig in the yearly 90's with various rock
band in the Los Angeles area. Other projects have included orchestral stage performances with productions of Jesus
Christ Super Star, Hair, and God Spell. He has performed with artist like Janice Marie Johnson (Taste of
Honey), Keb Mo, and others including original projects, both recording and live, that have
included Materia Gris, The Phoenix and Soul Pocket.
Aaron currently
plays with The 3 Heads and Janeen Leah
Aaron lives in
