WHAT THE ABCZ MEDSET IS:
In addition to the ABCZ main medical
file, ABCZMT2, several other files are included in this
set to more easily and rapidly do
medical transcription with Shorthand for Windows/SpeedType. With these
files you can save thousands of keystrokes daily. All the short forms are
accessed using a few simple rules and are easily viewable in Shorthand's
visual advisory box.
Using Shorthand's "Link" feature, you can utilize several files at the same time. The ABCZ MEDSET is designed so that short forms seldom conflict. Hence you can have all the ABCZ MEDSET files open simultaneously, or any combination of them, as you work.
The ABCZ MEDSET consists of:
ABCZMT2SFW - Main medical
file with 19,500 words and phrases using the 3 main ABCZ rules.
Dates15_06SFW
- Dates in three formats (regular, hyphenated and slashed).
WordsSFW - 30,700 medical
and general words. Supplements the vocabulary in ABCZMT2.
SuturesSFW - 1330 sutures
and related terms.
OrthSurgPhrasesSFW - 7200
surgical phrases.
Total entries: About 66,000.
Following are some examples from the ABCZ MEDSET files (a newer date file covers 2006-2015):
DATES07_98SWF: Contains dates from 1998 to 2007 in three formats: regular, hyphenated and slashed.

WordsSFW: 30,000 medical
and general words.

The main ABCZ rule is: the first
three letters and the last letter of the word = ABC-Z, as in "esce" = escalate,
above.
SuturesSFW: Focuses
on a variety of sutures/stitches of various sizes.
In this example, the Sutures file has been loaded and "2p" typed. A variety of suture forms are immediately available by hitting the F keys. Or additional letters can be typed and the appropriate suture/stitch entered with the space bar. In either case, you get great keystroke savings.
If the number sign format is needed, that form is available by beginning the short form with an "n":
OrthSurgPhrasesSFW:
This file contains about 7200 phrases
from orthopaedic surgery.
In this example, the display has been changed to 1 column for full viewing of all the phrases, although the 3 column display can also be used. The letters "di" have been typed. For phrases of 3 or more words, the first letter of each word constitutes the short form or "keyword" (AAA..rule). You could enter "draped in a sterile manner" by hitting F3 or by typing "asm" and the space bar - 3 or 6 characters to get 26, counting spaces. For phrases of two words, the first two letters of each word are used (ABAB rule). You could enter "digitorum communis" into the text by hitting F7 at this point. Or you could type "co" and the spacebar. 3 or 6 characters to get 18 (a 600 or 300 percent increase).
Here the letters "fa" have been typed. Again very great savings in keystrokes are possible by hitting one of the F row keys or typing further letters and the space bar. "Fafl" plus space bar: 5 keystrokes to get 20.
