I am interested in providing you with everything you need to do your 914 V8 conversion. I can put together a kit for you including whatever you need. If you want to phone me to talk about the specifics on your project, please do. I will be happy to answer any questions and advise you with your V8 conversion. There are several options on the adapter kits, depending on your requirements and budget. You also have a few different options on radiators, fans, water lines, etc. to consider.

I built my first Porsche V8 car about 20 years ago, and have constructed many complete Porsche V8 conversions over that time period, plus the many conversion parts I have manufactured and supplied to others such as yourself. I have used 327, 350, 377, 383 cu. in. engines with great success. I have developed and built many of my own conversion parts (I am actually a Mechanical Engineer), and they are available individually or in a package. You can probably do a basic budget SBC V8 conversion for around $3500 plus the original cost of the car. You can expect 0-60 times in the 5-6 sec. range, depending on the engine you use. Top speed around 140-150 MPH. The 914 will do 22 1/2 MPH per 1000 RPM in 5th gear with the stock 901 transaxle. The converted 914 will weigh around 2300-2350 lbs. for early 914. The later cars with heavy bumpers and door reinforcements will weigh between 2400-2450 lbs. The weight distribution will remain essentially unchanged. The extra engine weight is offset by the radiator, cooling fan, water, hoses, etc. in the front of the car.

If you have any questions specific to your 914 project, please feel free to contact me by phone or e-mail and I will be very happy to discuss them. I do return phone calls, so please leave a message with your name and phone number if I happen to be away from the phone.

Thanks,

David Buchhauser
