I'm done with the ribbing square.
I'm going to have to redo it, (or block the living hell out of it) but I am for the moment done. Yippee. It's white - and the gauges are very, very different between the white yarn and the red yarn. oops.

Anyway, off to increase/decrease square number one. It is cast on. The first border row is knit... Whatever will happen next?

Ok, finished the reverse stockinette - I may redo this one. I'll block it first, but I'm not sure what the hell happened here. it's just (yet again) an entirely different size than the straight stockinette.

HOW IS THIS HAPPENING? I have put things down form months, picked them up again and gotten perfect gauge. For some reason with this - where I need to do perfect gauge, it has been all over the place. I think I can block them all to size, but who the hell knows.

And along bad tidings, my ribbing sucks. A lot. How did I not know how bad a knitter I am? Alas. (Maybe the blocking) Anyway, the ribbing is in white. Lovely stuff if my work wasn't crap.

did the first several rows of the reverse stockinette - as gauge was hellishly off, decided to try again later...
what if I never get it in gear?

Problem!!!!! My garter stich is wider than my stockinette stitch. Ack. I think it might be correctible in blocking but who knows.

Problem 2 !!!! I realized I had planned for a square center and the center isn't square - the panel is (maybe, but there's the problem thing going on - but if there weren't the panel would be square) but the seed stitching on the side is bigger than that on the bottom and so the panel is rectangular. Hopefully, the stitches will fit.... agh.

Ok, done with the garter stitch - its edges are the same as the stockinette stitch;... but

The stockinette stitch is tight. I think I can block them to the same size, but I also think it just might be in my best interest to reknit one. I'm going to do the reverse st. and see what i should be doing....

Continuing on in garter;.... i don't know how many short rows i'm going to need... i hope i've planed this ok. I am noticing that my short rows are visible from the wrong side - but pretty close to invisible on the right. which is great.

my garter short row pattern - for posterity....

Finished square one (whooo hooo & happy birthday to me!!!!!) Anyway, final stats were 38 center panel stitches + 5 stitches on each side & 56 center panel rows + 6 rows on each side. I made a bad measurement - I'm getting close to 7 rows/inch - so, um. yeah. not sure what to do with that, other than accept it and move on.

Now, I'm trying to figure out how to shortrow the garter stitch for square #2.... wish me luck!

Ok, so I went back out and got an addi bamboo size 6 (4.0mm) needle and swatched it. I'm a great deal closer to the suggested 5st./inch with this needle so I'm going to use it instead (plus my work looks neater even if it is a bit stiffer than I'm used to.)

I've started square 1. Done the first 10 rows (6 rows of seed, 4 of st. st.) It's red! I'm knitting eastern uncrossed which gives my work a lot more regularity than it would have if I were doing whatever style it was that I originally learned (I think just straight english style knitting.)

So far, it looks good.
