To gain a level of Remote Piloting skill: Difficult. (Unskilled). DET. Absolute (1 week). Referee: Only unskilled characters (and those with Skill Level 0) may attempt this week-long, eight-hours/day task under the supervision of a more highly skilled instructor.
To hit a target with a remotely controlled weapon: Routine. The Lower of (Remote Piloting OR Gunnery) +/- the missile's Targetting Computer modifier +/- the weapon's modifier (+1 for double mounts) +/- the appropriate Target Profile modifier (-2 at one hex range). Instant. Referee: Note that the use of this Task substantially changes space combat, requiring a Remote Pilot to have more skills.
To selectively target an enemy Ship's Hanger Deck, Hull, Missile Bay, Power Plant, or Surface Fixture with a remotely piloted weapon: Formidable. The Lower of (Remote Piloting OR Gunnery) +/- the missile's Targetting Computer modifier +/- the weapon's modifier (+1 for double mounts) +/- the appropriate Target Profile modifier (-2 at one hex range). Instant. Referee: Bridge, Drive, Life Support, and TAC attacks are Impossible, and Computer, Damage Control Parties, and UTES may not be attacked in this manner. Success will damage the area or fixture targetted, and will not cause Continuous damage. Failures totalling six or more are treated as normal hits, with the location being rolled randomly.
To remotely pilot a robot in an easy physical operation for which it is equipped: Simple. The Lower of ((Remote Piloting OR Robotics) and the Skill(s) required to perform the Task). Time as the other Task. Referee: If Scout has a Remote Piloted Drone with mechanical hands and a Mueller-Rivera P-3 laser pistol built into it, and has skills of Air Vehicles 1, Mechanics 2, Remote Piloting 0, Sensors 2, and Sidearms 2, he will be able to attempt any Task requiring these Skills, through the drone, although (since his Remote Piloting Skill is only Level Zero) he won't be any good at any of them, except Sensors (a non-physical mental Task relying on his interpretation of the data that the sensors feed him). If Scout increased his Remote Piloting Skill to Level Three, he would still only be Level Two in all these Skills (except Air Vehicles, which would be Level One)! From this one Task, it is possible to generate an almost infinite number of others. Also note that NO Task may be performed for which the drone or robot is not equipped.
To properly launch a Decoy Drone (DD): Difficult. (Uncertain). Piloting & Remote Piloting. Instant. Referee: Both the Ship's Pilot and the Drone's Remote Pilot must succeed in this task. Success means the ship assumes "All-Stop", and the DD appears to be it, continuing on its way. Failure means that any sensor observing the ship would notice something wrong - a momentary dual image (or lack of any image) on a Superficial Mishap. Minor Mishaps alert any DD-Recognition Programs, making later detections of the Ship/Drone one level easier, from then on. Major Mishaps make subsequent detections two levels easier.
