Members of the Legal Profession practice Corporate, Family, International, Interstellar, and other forms of law.

Initial Training: Bureaucracy 3, Information Gathering 3, Interviewing 3, Writing 3, Local Knowledge 2, Computer 2.

Primary Skills: Bureaucracy, Information Gathering, Computer, Interviewing, Writing, Bargaining, Anthropology, Psychology, Forgery, Streetwise.

Related Skills: Imaging, All Other Intellectual Skills, All Other Mercantile Skills, All Other Underworld Skills, All General Skills, All Space Crew Skills, All Vehicle Skills.

Notes: Legal/Research Skills, as well as Interrogation/Interviewing and Legal Writing, are the bread and butter of any Lawyer. Knowledge of local laws & courts is also a necessity. Since most Legal Research & Writing is done via computer, knowledge of Comp. Sci. is also useful. Plea Bargaining ability, the capacity to spot forgeries, and being generally Streetwise is also quite useful. Since law covers most areas of life, there is no area in which a Lawyer cannot specialize, and specialists in General Space Law or Interstellar Salvage Law might have Space Crew Skills, (for instance).

Benefits: As an Academic Career, Lawyers get one language for free, and this will be Latin. Also, as members of Government/Civilian Careers, they will receive French. Other languages required for their practices may be learned via the Academic Linguistics skill, as usual. Military Lawyers (JAG Officers, etc.) use the Benefit Table for their branch of service (but do not get any weapons other than sidearms, if rolled). See the Benefits Table.

Also, since Law school will take a minimum of four years to complete, Lawyers rolling less than that for their first term should roll to pass the next turning point. If unsuccesful, they will have to subtract the difference from some skill(s). Otherwise, four points should be subtracted from their first term, as they receive 16 Initial Training points.
