The Computer Operator mans a stand-by computer workstation, ready to reconfigure it to any other type so that the off-watch duty personnel can man it after the primary duty station has been destroyed. Computer Operators with other Ship Crew skills are thus more desirable (since they can then man the reconfigured workstation themselves).
