  1. Hirim Williams - Chairman of the Orbital Facility above Premiere. He has access to ships and information concerning their comings and goings.
  2. Suzanne DeMoire - Shipping Clerk at the Beanstalk Facility. She has information concerning shipments.
  3. "Lester" - Underworld figure in Premiere. He has access to ships' weapons and munitions, as well as falsified papers. Once described as "A worm on the slimy underbelly of Premiere".
  4. Lieutenant Colonel Giskard DuFrey - French Space Military. Very loyal to France, but uses characters sometimes.
  5. Arnold French - Assistant Purchaser (City Manager) of Premiere. Characters met him outside of business.
  6. William Baxter - Lawyer for the French Government. Uses characters for information gathering.
  7. Walter Peck - Surgeon in Premiere. Was blackmailed and went to characters for help 18 months ago.
  8. Miss Sandra Day - Secretary at Hyde Dynamics of Premiere. Member of the research committee for the Premiere Chamber of Commerce. Sometimes known as "The Dragon-Lady". A real Man-eater.
  9. William Stein - Troubleshooter. Unfriendly associate of players in the same line of work. (He once sent an E-mail to the PCs that it was only a matter of time until he hacked their mainframe...)
  10. Walter Recknovik - Premiere Police Department detective. Always in the background. He doesn't trust the players.

The NPCs, above, are some from the first _Traveller:2300_ campaign I ever played in, sent to me by our old Referee, Rick Grant. While Monsieur DuFrey formed the reason for our group to exist, French, Baxter, Peck, Day, and Recknovik never showed up, at all. Williams, DeMoire, and Lester only appeared briefly, when sought, and Stein only appeared as an off-stage threat, via E-mail.

I once asked Rick why he'd gone to all the work of designing these NPCs, and then never used them. "I used to believe in preparation, back in those days.", he said, and then explained the various uses he could put them to... Williams & DuFrey practically ran the Beanstalk Station, and DuFrey served as Patron and group identifier. DeMoire was to help us get information, especially in "The Man Who Would Be King" Adventure. Lester was our Underworld contact (although he always dealt honestly with my PC). Mr. French was another source of information on where materials went, for the above-named adventure. Baxter was there to bail us out of trouble when we got ourselves in it (with or without Recknovik's help). Peck was there to help patch us up, as needed. Day was yet another source of info (and diversion). Stein was there to give us more trouble, if we were having too easy a time, or move us along when we were too slow. Usually, we seemed to scrape by okay without these helpers, though, so they were rarely used.

Besides the NPCs from the original campaign, and the NPCs from the _Beanstalk_ module, play over the years has prompted the development of a few more NPCs, some of which are listed here.

  1. Martin Bloomfield
  2. Carmen Boltzinger
  3. Gillian Forrester
  4. Lacy Streltzan
