What's the News with One Man's Views?

14 December 2004 - Hopefully, all of the articles are back up, in the 2300 Products Section. Also, the listing of 2300 Products now includes thumbnails of the ones whose cover paintings I am permitted to post.

31 October 2004 - Most of the Products Section (including the articles) were uploaded, today. This included most of the 2300 Resource articles, as well as most of the articles from the first 40 issues of Challenge. The Sources Section was also put back up, and the information on the DRM .PDF eBooks at DriveThruRPG.com added, and defunct sites removed.

12 October 2004 - The Links page is updated, and back up, as is the "Web sites" page it leads to. If your web site is in the bottom-most section, kindly E-mail me with the new URL, and I'll update it...

23 September 2004 - I finally finished the Hard Science links page, and put it back up. A lot of old sites are gone, many URLs have been changed, and a lot of rocketry sites (especially) have been added. Also, the Life in the 24th Century Section is back up, as well.

17 September 2004 - Okay, so this is late, but 2300AD has apparently been returned to e-print on 7 May 2004! If you have the Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0+ and register for a free DriveThruRPG account, you can download the game for free! Many of the old modules are also available, for less than $10!

Once you have the Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0+ installed, you will have to go to the Tools menu, and select "eBook Web Services", and then the "Adobe DRM Activator" from the "eBook Web Services" sub-menu. From there, either login with a pre-existing MSN ".NET Passport" ID, create one, or create an Adobe ID. Then go to DriveThruRPG.com, create an account there, then go to the 2300AD link, above, and click on "Add to Cart".

And yes, the Kafer Sourcebook is also available ($9), as are the Star Cruiser ($12) and the original Traveller:2300 ($15) games, the Aurore Sourcebook ($7), Bayern ($5), Beanstalk ($5), the Colonial Atlas ($9), Deathwatch Program ($7), Earth/Cybertech Sourcebook ($7), Energy Curve ($7), Equipment Guide ($5), Ground Vehicle Guide ($5), Invasion ($7), Kafer Dawn ($5), Mission Arcturus ($5), Nyotekundu Sourcebook ($7), Operation Overlord ($5), Ranger ($5), and Ships of the French Arm ($7).

For some odd reason, Rotten to the Core seems to have been left out, as were Seeker Gaming System's Hampton & Virginia deckplans.

Anyway, if you missed any of these products the first time around, you can now get them in .PDF format, at least!

22 February 2004 - So, how's the speed of the new site, folks? It seems to be okay, to me (except for the slow counter on the Homepage). What do you think? Sign the Guestbook, or E-mail me, and let me know!

21 February 2004 - More Hard (?) Science links, today. Lots of work to be done, on this section!

20 February 2004 - The FAQs are back up, although not all of the documents that they link to are... In case you haven't noticed, I am restoring Sections in the order that they appear on the Homepage. So far, everything down through the FAQs (with the exception of L'Encyclopedie des Organismes des Colonies), has been restored, and I am now working on the Hard (?) Science links.

I did a lot of work on the Hard (?) Science links page, today. I re-found a lot of old links, and added so many new ones that I had to add a whole new sub-section just for them! Unfortunately, a lot of the old ones also seem to have disappeared!

I have to say that, in comparison to Crosswinds, I am pretty pleased with the speed and ease of uploading to Earthlink. It is going much, much faster than I had anticipated! At this rate, all of the finished documents that used to be hosted on Crosswinds (before the last two total wipes) may be restored before the end of March, and some new documents might actually begin appearing (Now wouldn't THAT be a change of pace?)!

18 February 2004 - The Equipment Section is now back online (except for the Suit Shop, which is unfinished).

17 February 2004 - The Director's Chair is now back up.

16 February 2004 - The Art Gallery and Store Sections are back up. Also, while it took all night, by 10 AM, the Characters Section was also online (Note that any "Psychic" careers remain offline)!

8 February 2004 - The Adventures Section should now all be back up!

7 February 2004 - I began (and almost finished) uploading the "Adventures" Section, today.

5 February 2004 - I moved this site to Earthlink.net... Here's hoping they do a better job than Crosswinds! The long process of re-uploading over six megabytes of documents begins, yet again!

4 February 2004 - I discovered that my site was, once again, missing from Crosswinds.net!

1 February 2004 - Once again, Crosswinds (who had previously been free, then added Pop-Ups to encourage paid accounts, then done away with their free accounts and asked everyone to become "Premium" members, for a fee) is now asking everyone to become "Pro" members, for another, additional fee... In the same newsletter, they pat themselves on the back for the "great service" they've been providing, with "one little glitch" just after September 11th, 2001, when the power outages caused by the airplanes crashing into the world trade center caused some data loss...

In this same newsletter, they also (again) mention that there was another recent glitch, and once again state that they are truly apologetic for "any problems" caused to the few who lost data...

One Man's Views of 2300AD was mirrored on Crosswinds beginning on 7 March 1998. Between then and 4 February 2004, it has been wiped by Crosswinds more times than I can count, and this has almost never been a little data loss, but usually a TOTAL wipe! (Wiped on 21 September 1998, 21, 24, 26, & 28 July 1999 (Missing documents), 18 December 1999, 23 September 2001, 12 April 2002, and again on 4 February 2004.)

Okay, so that's at least five total wipes and four or more losses of data in seven years... During this same period, I have NEVER lost data on other web sites. A Crosswinds site I started for a friend of mine was also wiped at the same time as one of my multiple losses...

So, in short, I don't think Crosswinds should break its arm patting itself on the back for the great job they've done, nor claim that there has been only one little glitch! Okay, so they apologize for "any problems" caused by their losing my data... again... That was old the LAST time they did it!

1 January 2004 - The old What's New page has been retired.
