The Allied Force's Resumes:
(my old music / comedy trio)
- AGVA
What exactly was The Allied Force? No one who can even remember this once-popular novelty act can precisely say. Not the founding members Joel-Steven, Allan Cason, or Richard 'J.R.' Comeau, who changed their blurb from 'Makers of Musical Merriment' to 'A Unique Blend Of Quality Nerds' in an attempt to clarify. Not the promoters, performers, and club owners.....many who have called them 'the greatest opening act in the world', but booked them as headliners, anyway. Perhaps it was the critics who said it best, with quotes like 'These guys are headed for bigger things so catch them before they move 'uptown'.'- (Barry Koltnow, O.C. Register); 'Noted for their off-beat mixture of music and satire' - (Michael Kearns, Drama-Logue); 'Headed for the Big Time!' - (Mike Scott, The Voice) and 'Hysterical - a classic case of the warm-up act upstaging the billed stars......this group had their audience in stitches for a solid thirty minutes.' - (Richard Peraza, Daily Report). Although one can say who and what with some certainty, no one can ever accurately say why. The only remaining item of significant importance would've been WHERE:
IN CONCERT:
Sahara Tahoe as opening act for 'Legends of Rock and Roll' show featuring the Shirelles, Coasters and Rick Nelson; San Diego's Charger Stadium as opening act for The Coasters; Anaheim Convention Center in July 1980 opening for Don West; The Hop, Fountain Valley opening for the Righteous Brothers.
ENGAGEMENTS:
The Troubadour (Hollywood); The Playboy Club (Century City); The Golden Bear (Huntington Beach); David's Red Raven (Hollywood); Via Maria Restaurant (Cypress) as hosts of weekly comedy revue; The Academy (Hollywood); Comedy, Etc. (Los Angeles); Don Jose's (Montclair); Don Jose's (Riverside); Belisle's Restaurant (Garden Grove) for their 25th anniversary celebration; Grand Opening for Bertoni at The Beverly Center; and a Grand Opening for a Simi Valley shopping center; Numerous schools including Katella High, Bernardo Yorba, etc.
SHOWCASES:
The Comedy Store, The Improv, Comedy Etc.,The Masquers' Club 'New Faces' & 'Best of the New Faces' showcases; Sportsmen's Lodge; L.G.T. Vegas; Tavern on the Green (opening for David Whitfield); The Laugh Factory; The Rose Tattoo; Smokey Stover's; Rose Cafe; Old New Yorker; Natural Fudge Co.; Bla Bla Cafe.
THEME PARKS:
Spent the summer of 1981 as daily featured entertainers at Hanna-Barbera's Marineland. Other engagements include Magic Mountain, Knott's Berry Farm, and a private party for Disneyland's top management.
USO:
Toured eight weeks in Japan, Korea and Okinawa as 'Allied Force and Co.' for the final USO / DOD combined tour. In addition to numerous shows at the USO's Hollywood headquarters, Allied Force has teamed with the L A Rams Cheerleaders for shows at Edwards Air Force Base (Space Shuttle salute); USO's Distinguished American Award Night (emceed by Bob Hope) at Century Plaza Hotel; and the following bases: Camp Pendleton, El Toro Air Station, March Air Force Base, Twenty-Nine Palms, Long Beach Naval Station, Point Hueneme Naval Station.
T.V. / RADIO:
Two appearances on 'Go with Greg Show' (Orange County Cable); Victor Kubitshek's 'Short Side of Entertainment' (Valley Cable, Encino); Often heard on radio with the 'Dr. Demento Show' with parodies such as 'Rosh Hashanah' (based on 'My Sharona'), 'Abdul-Jabbara' (Steve Miller's 'Abracadabra') and a Top Ten Countdown hit (at #3), 'Detergent' (Foreigner's 'Urgent').
