Q: You're a sports statistician? What exactly do you do in that position?

A: The general answer to that is best found on the Job Description Page on this site. It has a pretty detailed description of what I do in my job.

Q: What sports do you cover? Do you attend the games you work?

A: I cover NBA and college basketball, NFL and college football, and MLB baseball. I work most games from my home office via satellite TV, but I do work on-site for Indianapolis Colts football games.

Q: How is the data you produce used?

A: The data and information I collect is used in real-time by a number of major sports websites. The statistics are also loaded into various databases, so the information can be used for detailed analysis at a later time.

Q: Where did you get the name "Wizard Sports"?

A: "Wizard Sports" came from a nickname I was given in college by a friend. We were playing some pick-up basketball, and the friend commented on my performance, "Magic is taken, so I guess we'll have to call you the Wizard". The name stuck, and the rest is history!

Q: Does your company still do anything with fantasy football? Do you still play fantasy football?

A: I cut all professional ties to fantasy football in early 1998, but I continued to be a serious and highly successful fantasy football competitor until I "retired" from the game after the 2002 season.

Q: Do you have any openings at Wizard Sports? How can I get work doing what you do?

A: I do not plan to hire additional employees at this time. Trying to describe how a person breaks into this business would be very long-winded. But, the short version is that it is very difficult. Working in the sports industry is not for everyone, in fact, not for most people, even if you love sports. There is so much more to it, and everything (desire, sacrifice, and luck, just to name a few) really has to come together for you to make it happen.
