LIBERAL MOVEMENTS GROWING

A number of Kitsap County Democrats have formed a group to hold "non-denominational" rallies against the Bush presidency.

Late last summer, six local Democrats pooled their pocket money to have a 6-foot banner custom-made --

Re-Defeat Bush

VOTE DEMOCRATIC

We wanted to remind people that Bush was not really elected the last time around -- and he certainly didn't have a mandate to let this country be taken over by the Radical Right.

We also feel that the only way to unseat him is to vote for a Democrat.             We don't want the liberal vote to be split again, as it was in the last election (that's how we got stuck with Bush.)

Our banner is the focal point, but we each have signs protesting specific problems like tax cuts for the wealthy, the Patriot Act, and Halliburton's role in Iraq.   And we have at least one person holding the American flag

Although this idea originated with supporters of one Presidential campaign, we have decided not to allow signs for any individual candidate.  Our purpose is to show Democratic unity.*

While Daylight Saving Time lasted, we met every Friday afternoon during rush hour at some of the busiest intersections of Kitsap County, rotating locations every two weeks.
  • Oct. 3       5-6:00   Silverdale: Target store corner
  • Oct. 10     5-6:00              (same as above)
  • Oct. 17     5-6:00   Port Orchard: Safeway corner at Bethel and Lund.
  • Oct. 24     5-6:00             (same as above)
  • Oct. 31     --------    Time off for Hallowe'en (family day)

Now rush hour coincides with early nightfall, and there's not much point in holding signs in the dark -- so we are looking into afternoon rallies on weekends, as time permits.  Check this site for future dates.

We would love to have you join us!  Don't worry about bringing a sign - we have plenty.

Our banner will really come into its own as we get closer to the 2004 election.
