' Franken's core argument is that the right-wing media push their message through to the mainstream while labeling anyone who questions them a traitor.

' The message "moves through the shadowy world of sleazy right-wing operatives, into the radical-right fringe press (American Spectator), over to the thinly disguised radical right-wing media (Washington Times and Fox News Channel), and onto the quasi-respectable right-wing press (Wall Street Journal editorial page). Why the right is wrong: Franken exposes conservative bias in media

In the game of partisan politicking, Al Franken just hit a home run. Even if you don't agree with Franken's admittedly left-wing perspective, you do have to admit his newest book is a success.

"Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right" debuted a few weeks ago at No. 1 on the New York Times nonfiction best-seller list.

Why? Beyond Franken's well-researched and biting criticism of conservatives and his poignant, laugh-out-loud satire, there's the Fox News Channel. In a delicious irony, the trademark infringement case brought by the conservative network (for using the term "fair and balanced" in the book's subtitle) failed in court, turned into a public relations train wreck for Fox and helped catapult sales of Franken's book.

However, the fact the book is selling is not why you should read it. You should read it because Franken and his team of researchers (14 Harvard grad students known as TeamFranken) systematically expose the efforts of the right-wing media to shuffle their lies into the mainstream. ...
