David Graeber has truly dedicated his life to art. This New Jersey native obtained a Fine Arts degree from Camden County
Community College and went on to express himself through graphic art and woodworking. However, he found his true passion in
flameworking when he became Paul Stankard’s assistant in 1989.
Paul Stankard, the undisputed
master of floral glass paperweights, has spent his forty year career creating floating botanical worlds that rival nature.
“David Graeber, my assistant for twenty years, has contributed in no small way to the success of the studio,”
said Stankard. “I value his skilled virtuosity and dedication which he brings to the art of the paperweight. David’s
glass art creations are continuing our South Jersey glass tradition in to the twenty first century. His unique floral paperweights are gaining
national attention from collectors around the country.”
While he continues to assist Paul, David has become an independent glass artist, creating
his own vision of nature in glass. As he says, “I have a passion for the simple gifts of nature -- the timeless beauty
of a rose, the industriousness of a bee or the untamed wildness of a sunflower. Working in glass allows me to explore this
passion, and under the tutelage of Master Glass artist Paul Stankard, I refined my passion to the art of capturing nature
frozen for eternity in a paperweight.”
David’s work will be featured
here at Accent Studio during the First Friday celebration on October 2, 2009 from 5-9 PM. In addition to his finished works,
a step-by-step display will illustrate the various stages of creating these amazing botanical paperweights. Meet the artist
at Accent Studio on October 2nd between 6-9 PM.
