A beautiful voice from Canada charmed the auidence and a comidian keep their attention. Sunday .. 06: Start 12 noon Is the time to get the parade lined up. The parade departs at 1 pm up 7th street via Park, C, Washington, and Telephone to the back gate of St Margarte Mary Church and through the parking lot to the church. Lunch was served about 3 pm and again after the band returned at 4:30 pm. Festa Do Espirto Santo, 2001, Do 82 Aniversario Annually: Pentecost Sunday at Portuguese American Club 1133 Crafton Ave, Mentone, CA 92359-9644 mail: PO Box 603, Mentone, 92359-0603 mass: Sacred Heart Church 115 Olive Ave, Redlands, CA 92373-5245 Saturday 02: Starts 7 pm, Transfer of the crown to the new queen for 2001, to Karen Pattison, from the 2000 queen, Jazmin Knox. Also offering of breads, recitation of the Rosary, concluded by a light Portuguese meal. Follwed by Social with Recorded music Sunday .. 03: Mass 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Parish Church in Redlands, Queen, court and members in attendance. Festa starts 12:30 pm at the Portuguese American Hall. Starts off with the parade of queen & the princesses at hall, to place crowns on the alter. Refreshments, games, & freshly made Portuguese pastry available while waiting for traditional soupas meal. Wonderful pieces of Sao Jorge cheese, wine & other items auctioned throughout the afternoon. The raffle drawing held at the close. Don't forget to make a generous donation for the food served, and buy lots of raffle tickets. Directions: From Redlands, go East on Colton Ave. to Crafton Ave. Left on Crafton, about 50 yards. Bring lawn chairs & your shade covers. Limited outside seating with nice breeze. |

Ample parking in surrounding lots and at mall. The heat took some of the edge off of the fun. the parade route crosses 3rd, when the light is green only, blocking traffic is not an option. The girls were beautiful, and dancing, samba of course was excellent. Food service was overwhelmed by the crowd. In the future, bring water, eat before. The show in the amphitheater was good, except for the heat. The parade could use more organization, but overall very interesting. |
