Dear Portuguese Members and Descendants:

           I would like to wish you all a happy and joyous new year.   My name is E. Ashley Fontes, oldest daughter to Tony and Bella Fontes, granddaughter to John and Ines Sousa and Antonio and Virginia Fontes.   It will be an honor to represent our Portuguese American Club as the 2002 Festa Do Espirito Santo Queen.   Monique Valdez and Felicia Fontes will be the 2002 Festa Do Espirito Santo Princesses.

           As you may know, this year's festa will be Saturday, May 18 and Sunday, May 19.   I Am very excited and eager to take on such a task.   However, this is a task that must start earlier this year due to the early festa date.   There are 60 children eligible to participate in this Year's festa.   I need your help to encourage your children's participation.   If we can get all the children to participate, it will be one of the largest procession of children ever.   I will also need help with repairing costumes, decorating, and donations.

           I was fortunate enough to be able to travel with my family to the Azores and live on the island of Santa Maria for a brief period of time.   I learned their culture, enjoyed their food and live in their way of life.   Many of these Portuguese American children will only be exposed to what we can give them.   If we work together, I know that we can keep this wonderful Portuguese tradition and heritage alive.
