Dear Portuguese Members and Descendants:

           I would like to wish you all a happy and joyous new year. My name is Felicia Amy Fontes, middle daughter of Tony and Bella Fontes, granddaughter to John and Ines Sousa and Antonio and Virginia Fontes. I am honored to represent our Portuguese American Club as the 2004 Festa Do Espirto Santo Queen. Jamie Rezendes, a Sophomore at Yucaipa Valley High School and Gabrielle Fontes, My younger sister is an eighth grader at Moore Middle School are both excited to be the 2004 Festa Do Espirito Santo Princesses.
           As you may know, this year's Festa will be Saturday, June 5 and Sunday, June 6. I am very excited and eager to take on this responsibility. There are approximately 50 children eligible to participate in this year's festa. I need your help to encourage your children's participation. If we can get all the children to participate, it will make it a lot easier. I will also need help with repairing the white capes, decorating, and donations.
           I have been fortunate enough to be able to travel with my family to the Azores and live on the island of Santa Maria for brief periods of time. I learned their culture, enjoyed their food and live in their way of life. Many of these Portuguese American children will only be exposed to what tradition we can give them. If we work together, I know that we can keep this wonderful Portuguese tradition and heritage alive.
