Art Shows and ChristmasDecember 2003
I went up to Sedona with mom & dad for an afternoon. We went to Tlaquepaque to see Bearcloud's gallery since mom & dad collect his paintings. Mom & I have been there before but dad hadn't. We were lucky enough that Bearcloud was there. He spent a good bit of time talking with us. He now has coffee mugs with his prints on them, so I had to get 2. And he did a few small giclees so I couldn't pass one up. He had 6 different ones there, all hung together. I stood there looking at each and meditated for the paintings to tell me which one I should have. The one I got spoke the loudest. They're small enough that I can find room in the motorhome! I've been waiting for years for him to do something small enough. He usually does large paintings.
Bearcloud paints his visions from when he goes on vision quest. So the words about the painting are words about his vision. There are links on the right. Click on Paintings. If you click on each painting you'll get the words Bearcloud wrote about it. The Lodge link is Bearcloud talking about his painting in general. He's a great guy and I could talk with him for a long time. He's very spiritual, calming, insightful.
For those of you that want to understand what a Giclee is ... the short of it, it's a way for artists to make prints so the prints look as original as the painting.

I went to the Indian Market at Steele Indian School Park with mom & dad. Produced by the Pueblo Grande Museum Auxiliary, this Indian Market has been held for 27 years and offers some of the finest Native American art available. There were 500 exhibitors selling clothing, paintings, jewelry, sculptures, sandart, pottery, and herbs. There also was entertainment ... hoop dancing, drum contest, native dress fashion show, Apache dance group, storytelling and Navajo code talkers. They dedicated this Indian Market to Lori Piestewa. It took about 5 hours to walk the entire show and that wasn't really stopping to look in each booth.
I got to talk to several artists (either I or mom & dad have some of their pieces of art) ... David John, Desert Little Bear Gonzales, Aaron White, Kathryn Yauney, Buddy Tubinaghtewa.
It turned out to be an expensive day. Burning Sky just put out their new CD, so I bought one from Aaron. I didn't have him sign this CD case like I did the one that was up for a Grammy last year. I got some jewelry ... a silver pony tail holder and feather earrings made from rawhide. I found 2 gorgeous silver guitar picks that I just had to have for my dulcimers. One has a Kokopelli cutout which I'll attach to my Kokopelli dulcimer. The other one has a feather cutout which will go on the new dulcimer. The big purchase of the day was two mini masks from Kathryn Yauney.

Christmas
On Christmas Eve I cooked a ham for Christmas Day. I went up to mom & dad's around 11 AM. We went to the movies for the afternoon and then had supper. We reheated the ham and dad made mashed yams and mixed veggies to go with it. Then we watched a little TV before I came back to the campground.
