ABAKAN Samoyeds was established in Claremont, California, in 1971.
Since then we have lived and run in Arizona, Washington state, Wyoming,
Colorado, and Arkansas. Every Sam that stays at ABAKAN is tried out in harness.
Most have been willing workers; some have been exceptional. What harness work
has shown, and continues to show, is not only structure and movement(strong rears
and proper front assembly), but good feet, muscling and muscle mass, working
"attitude" and aptitude, willingness to please and work with a "team" in a group situation,
grit and "heart", the ability to run cool(rather than overheating), and overall good health.

Other than working ability, considerations for breeding have been type, excellent structure
and hard driving but fluid movement, and good temperament. In addition, all the dogs shown
on the ABAKAN website were conceived and were whelped naturally. All the bitches shown
who have been bred have been willing breeders and good mothers. It is another focus of
ABAKAN to keep the Samoyed as natural a breed as possible.

There are Abakan dogs behind some of the top working Sams in the U.S. : SCA Top Working
leader, SCA Top Sled Dog, SCA Top Obedience Sam, SCA Top Herding Sam, 3 top OWS and
IWPA weight pullers, and Top OWS leader. As well, Abakan bred dogs have run competitively
in both sprint races and distance races in the US and Europe. I also feel extremely fortunate
in that two of the leaders on Don Duncan's all- Samoyed team in the 760 mile 2007 Serum
Run in Alaska had an Abakan bred grandsire with several other Abakan bred dogs in the four
preceding generations.

There are also ABAKAN dogs behind some of the top winners
at national and regional specialties in recent years, including:
