(Latest Update: May 2. 2009)
Hello, and welcome to my website.
Anyway, first of all, please allow me apologize for the ridiculously long web address.
It wasn’t my choice. I’m sure that it’s just part of some computer company conspiracy designed to cause
people to wear out their keyboards.
The purpose of this site is to introduce myself, through both words and pictures, to prospective employers,
people looking to commission artwork, and new friends. It will also serve to update friends as to what is going on in my life.
My name is Michael Carey (but you already knew that). Some of my Renaissance Faire friends may know me by
my alias, Aaron Synn.
I have been working in banking since 1986. Originally, I worked for Security National Bank, which was then
sold to Bank of New England. I transferred to Essex Bank (another bank which was owned by Bank of New England) and worked
there briefly. Both Security National and Essex bank eventually were completely absorbed into Bank of New England. I worked
for them until they went out of business, and were taken over by the government. The government kept the bank running for
a few months under the name of ‘New Bank of New England’.(Just flows off the tongue, doesn’t it?) That bank
was purchased by Fleet Bank, and I worked for them for several years. Fleet Bank expanded to such a degree that the government
decided that it was getting to be a monopoly in this area, so the bank was forced to sell several of it’s branches.
My branch, and everyone in it, was sold to Sovereign Bank, a Pennsylvania based bank that was looking to move into the New
As of Thursday, May 14th, 2009, I will no longer be with the bank. I was among the 950 laid off.
I have been given a good severance package which should tide me over until I secure future employment.
I also do work as an illustrator, and have been published dozens of times in newspapers, magazines, and books.
I generally work in black and white, and my style tends toward cartoonish characters and more realistic comic-book style illustrations.
I have been experimenting with computer coloring and I am skilled in using Adobe Photoshop. I am known for my speed and reliability
in my art projects. My rates are very reasonable. Examples can be found on my 'MySpace' pages. (see below)
For the last 11 years or so, I have been involved with Eeldrytch Armouree, a company owned by my friends Paul
and Chris, which specializes in leather products with a medieval feel. We sell things at various Renaissance Faires and similar
events throughout the year. In the course of working these faires, I have met some of the most unique and fascinating (and
occasionally famous) people I have ever known. Working at the faires can be difficult at times, but it is rewarding, and worth
every minute. Eeldrytch produces the finest hand-made leather I have ever seen. Please check out their website by clicking
the link at the bottom of this page.
