Five hundred bunnies waited in a semicircle formation around the east tunnel entrance, which was illuminated by four battery-powered spotlights. Several SPAM-mortar emplacements were scattered along the line, and in the center a phalanx of bunnyarmored troops sharpened their metallic claws. It was an impressive display, but the warrenleader was still nervous. "Are you *sure* they're coming in through the tunnels? [fluffle]" "Of course. [fluff] My agents reported a large force of squirrels massing directly over the Cedar Point spur and setting off large amounts of explosives. They also heard this warren mentioned by name. It's only a matter of time." "Still, Captain, I think we should post more guards at the entrance..." "Nonsense. [poof] Once the reinforcements arrive, we may be able to spare the troops, but until then we'll need everything we've got. They may only be squirrels, but they're sneaky. And there're a LOT of them this time." "But if they attack from the surface..." "We'll fight them off when they get here." "But the civilians..." "Are expendable. This terminal is not. [stomp!]" The warrenleader looked back at the corridor to the upper levels, where his family and a hundred others huddled in paw-dug burrows, with only a skeleton guard between them and the surface. He wondered if letting Captain Blitzer take over the defense was a good idea. He *did* have experience against the squirrels, and without his timely warning they might have been in serious trouble, but there were whispers... Suddenly, there was a [whoosh] and a [splat] as one of the SPAM-mortars fired. The Captain hopped over to the trigger-happy gunner and gripped the hapless bun's throat in his claws. "S-s-s-sir, I saw a sq-sq-squirrel!" He released his grip. "Running away, like it was spying on us, sir!" "You!" Blitzer shouted, pointing at two armored buns in the front line, "Scout down the tunnel. If the squirrels know we're here, I want to know for sure." He turned back to the gunner. "As for you, HOLD YOUR FIRE until the order is given! We need to save the ammo for the attack!" "Do you think the squirrels really saw us? [ruffle]" the warrenleader asked. The Captain gave a glare than, even through the armor, made him recoil. "We'll know soon enough."
