Five squirrels sat in the middle of the big table off in the corner, while the humans, for the most part, milled about in the main section of the store, reading magazines and playing silly human card games. The rest of the squirrels were scattered around the general vicinity outside, making sure no bunnies snuck up on the Fortress. The name of the store, not a description -- the place was not by any stretch of imagination defensible, and while the humans within might be willing, and have years of experience with tactical and strategic simulations (games), a bunny assault now, while they were unprepared and unarmed, would not last long. Which was why the squirrels outside took their job very seriously. The two group leaders, just arrived from Indiana, sized up the humans. "*These* are the Fudds you were telling us about?" one asked. The three scouts from Toledo shrank back under their withering stares. The other group leader waved his laser and shouted, "This is pathetic! We're supposed to attack a warren, armed with pointy sticks, and rely on these... these..." "Posers?" the first suggested. "Whatever. This whole human thing was a bad idea from the start. You know what happened that last time we fought with humans." "The *last* time," one scout said, "Was when Teral and Moxie were travelling together. I was there -- he saved our tails when the lasers couldn't." The group leaders glanced back at the humans and shuddered. "Maybe he did, but they won't. I say leave them behind." "Hey," one of the humans said, wandering over, "Are you talking about us?" The five squirrels turned to glare at him. He glared back. "Now, er... Bob?" one of the scouts replied, after a second or two. "Matt." "Whatever. These squirrels here brought our reinforcements. They don't think you're up to taking out this warren." "They're not." "Yes we are! I mean, damn it, they're just a bunch of rabbits!" "A bunch of highly trained, killer bunny rabbits." "We're trained! We've been practicing all week!" "With what?" "Bob's bringing the axes. Don't know why he's not here, now." "Don't worry," said the scout who'd been quiet up till now, before the group leaders could get too nervous, "Jak's with him." "I thought you were Jak," the human said, squinting at the squirrel. "No, I'm Neera," she replied coldly, "Jak's with Bob. They should be here any second." "They should be here by now," the human said, fretting.
