[In our last episode, Robin had finally arrived at UCirc warren where he was to be converted and trained as a bunny spy. But Chit panicked on seeing a human and knocked him unconscious. We now join our hero[cough][cough] [ahem] We now rejoin Chit, as he leads the professor to the hidden laboratory, to perform the conversion before Robin awakes.] "So the human's... in there, is he? Are you sure this is safe?" "You have nothing to worry about. [flick] He was a bit nervous so we gave him something to calm him down." Chit shook his head. "I'm afraid I miscalculated the dosage... I should have waited for you. But it's the standard scout load, no lethal dose. [shrugflick]" "Ah." Khyron hesitated at the doorway. "Well, it's probably for the best. [flick] Er... is that what's in all those guns everyone has? Tranqulizers?" "No, these are lasers. You can tell by the lens. See?" Khyron scurried back as Chit jabbed the barrel at his face. "Sorry. [embarrassedflick]" "No problem... [chitter]" "Don't mention the tranqulizers, if he wakes up" Chit said, "That was one of the things he was getting nervous about. And the entrance... I'm afraid it was designed for speed rather than safety, it can be a bit unnerving. [flick]" The two of them entered the infirmary. Robin lay stretched out on a hospital bed borrowed from the campus clinic, surrounded by medical equipment of varying scale. "Don't mention the forklifts either," Chit said. "If you insist." Khyron glanced around the room. "Curtains?" "Oh, he'll see those. [flick] That's sort of the point of them, you know -- make him feel at home. Or at hospital, at least. Talk about them all you want. [grinflick]" The pair climbed up onto a machine near robin's head, and Khyron hopped down to the bed and carefully made his way across the matress, looking for a good place to administer the injection. One not covered by several layers of clothing, for a start. "Wait!" Chit said just as he found a spot, "Don't you have tests or something to do?" "Well, I'll be taking blood and tissue samples periodically, but there really isn't a point until the infection takes. We have plenty of human samples. [flick] Should I go ahead?" Chit stood there and looked down at Robin. "Mr. Chit?" "Go ahead, professor." Chit looked away. He hated needles. "There. This virus of yours is rather strong. We should see signs within a day or two." "How long until it's irreversible?" "It depends. [shrugflick] No way to tell unless we try to reverse it. I don't reccommend it." Khyron reattached the empty syringe to his back and ran back to join Chit on the machine. The sat there in silence, listening to the human breathe. God, it was loud. "Do you need anything else?" Chit asked, running to the edge nearest the door. "All the equipment is here..." "If something goes wrong I'll need someone to assist." Chit paused. "I'll find someone," he chittered, as he lept to the floor and scurried off.
