UCirc stands for University Circle, which is the area of the city. Suddenly, a pair of silver squirrels appeared and blocked his path. "Where do you think you're going?" one said. "Let me see that message," said the other. The scout shrunk back, snatching the paper back from their grabbing claws. He felt something behind him, and whirled to see another pair. Suddenly, it was too much for him to take. "GET OUT OF MY WAY," he screamed, the pushed past the startled silvers and ran for the control center. Behind him, he heard them giving chase, but they soon fell behind -- he was a scout, after all. --- Teral was scanning the news when the door slammed open and a squirrel burst in and ran up to him. "Teral!" he squeaked, holding out a scrap of paper, "Take it!" Suddenly, four silver guards burst through the door, lasers drawn. "Teral! Get away, that squirrel's a bunny agent!" One of the labbies hit him in the side, and they went rolling across the floor. Teral heard a squirrel scream in pain as someone hit him, and threw the labbie off, drawing his own laser. "Drop them," he said, aiming at the guards, but they were gone. He scrambled over to the intruder. He was still alive -- barely. Apparently, the guards hadn't had time to aim, and three of them had missed completely. Looking closer, Teral recognized him as one of the scouts. He turned around and sent for a medical team to pick him up. Where was the paper? He looked around the floor, but it was gone. How had the guards had time to shoot the squirrel *and* take the message, and still managed to disappear that fast? "Kralk," the squirrel said weakly. "What?" "He's here. Right outside. They tried to kill me so you wouldn't know." "Why?" Teral asked, flicking his tail. Weren't Loren and the silver squirrels the ones who wanted the Four here in the first place? After a minute or so the medics came to take the scout to the hospital. Loren turned to the labbies -- labby? Where had the other one gone? Chris always had at least two keep an eye on him... In any case, "Let's go," he said, "We can't leave the Four sitting outside all day." "Why not?" the other squirrel asked, making a face. "Well, for one thing, a certain group of squirrels that goes around shooting our scouts wants us to do just that." Teral called security and had three guards -- red squirrels, just in case, although just because the four traitors he'd seen had been silver didn't really prove much -- meet him, and together they went to the surface. Where had Loren told the Four to meet? Arabica? It didn't take long to get there. But where were the Four? There were supposed to be two humans and a bunny, but he didn't see anything like that. Maybe they were in disguise? But as who? All he saw were students. Some clumsy human staggered past, and Teral and the others dodged aside, chittering angrily. Stupid humans. Now where were the four? "Death..." Muttered the human. Teral looked up. Could that be -- he almost hit himself. The human had rags and assorted clothing covering almost every inch of his body, a disguise if he'd ever seen one. He motioned... Kralk? Probably, since that was 'Death'... outside so they could talk. "Where's the Sibyl, and Jaykay?" he asked. "Didn't you recieve my message?" "Not exact-- never mind, let's get going." He led Kralk across campus, to the least conspicuous human-sized entrance. Then they waited for a time when no one was looking. "Where.." Kralk asked, but the labby shushed him before Teral had the chance. Finally, the crowds died down and Teral gave the signal. The ground dropped out from beneath them, and they slid down a chute to land in a jumble on a small platform, surrounded by metal bars and broken glass. Teral gave another signal and the bars retracted, and they headed for the warren. "Welcome to UCirc," Teral said as they passed through the last security door, "I hope you enjoy your stay." He did *not* like the look on Kralk's face when he said that... >Andrew Weitzman aweitz@CAM.org -------------------------------------------------- Teral Acorn Acting warren leader, UCirc Warren Vice President, SAADB
