Commissioning service is step in call to ministry Men and women, in
their quest to answer God’s call to ministry, took still another step in this intentional journey, as they knelt at
the altar before Bishop J. Lawrence McCleskey and the Rev. Tom Stinson-Wesley, president, Board of Ordained Ministry, on Friday
morning in Stuart Auditorium.
In presenting them, Stinson-Wesley said that the candidates completed the educational
requirements prescribed by the Book of Discipline and come with the affirmation of their local churches, district
committees on ordained ministry and the annual conference Board of Ordained Ministry.
One by one, each of the 37 candidates
for probationary status in the Western NC Conference of The United Methodist Church were commissioned. As he laid hands on
each candidate, Bishop McCleskey asked God to pour the Holy Spirit upon the person, and to send each one to, “proclaim
the good news of Jesus Christ, to announce the reign of God, and to equip the church for ministry, in the name of the Father,
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
Following the commissioning, two persons were received as associate members
of the annual conference and presented certificates by Bishop McCleskey. |
