Our Mission
Our mission is to enjoy driving, see our beautiful country,
and explore new-to-us roads. Our preference is the old two-lane highways, or, as John calls them, GON2L (Grand Old Numbered
2 Lane) highways.
We are birds of a feather ... We include four classic
Thunderbird owners, and one Harley owner, who enjoy cruising in our 1956 and 1957 Thunderbirds or riding Harleys.
We drive/ride at every opportunity - whether locally or long distance.

Our History
Our car club affiliations include Classic Thunderbird Club
International (CTCI), Santa Clara Valley Thunderbirds, Thunderbirds of the South Bay, Mini-Birds of Minnesota, Thunderbirds
of Southern California, and Vintage Thunderbird Club International (VTCI). We met through our CTCI affiliation.
Most of us live 'out West': Doc in the San
Francisco Bay area, Gordon in Western Colorado, John & Connie in California's Gold Country, and Lucy in
Southern California. Walter is from the East Coast (New Jersey). Doc named his '56 Bird The Chick Magnet, Gordon
named his '57 Ira, John named his 2009 Harley Electra Glide Classic Red th' Zed, and Lucy named her
'57 Betsy Bird.
Both Betsy Bird and The Chick Magnet have cruised all
of Route 66; Lucy and Betsy did this in 2004, and Doc and Chick in 2007. John will have ridden more than 400,000 miles before
we return from Alaska and has ridden in 48 of the 50 States (Alaska will be his 49th State - how did he miss ND?), plus Canada,
Mexico, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, and Austria.
We are all classic Thunderbird enthusiasts. To quote John,
"In 1957, I was a young teen. I knew right then and there (and have known ever since) that I was seeing the two coolest
cars ever produced, the '57 Chevy Bel Air and the '57 Ford T-Bird."
In 2007, Doc came up with the idea of driving to
the lower 48 State Capitols which Doc and Lucy did in 2008. We named that tour "48 in 08" and documented the trip at http://home.earthlink.net/~48in08.
In 2009, Gordon decided he wanted to drive to Alaska. Doc
hopped on board immediately; Lucy, John and Connie followed shortly thereafter. Walter joined the group the end of July.
Since Alaska is the 49th State admitted into the Union, and it will be the 49th State Capitol visited by the Chick Magnet
and Betsy Bird, this tour is named "49th in 09", aka 'North to Alaska'.
