I'm Going to Like That Part
2006 Part One Hundred Forty-six
by Exfilia
"What's going on?" Tracy asked Jesse.
"Nothing," he said. "What are you doing down here?"
"Asking you to ask Josh to clear the First Lady's remarks for the DWC tomorrow? I still work here, you know."
Jesse took the sheet of paper Tracy held and slipped it into his inbox. The girl didn't move.
"What now?" he asked.
"What's going on? Why's everyone back here?"
"No one's said anything to me," he told her.
"JESSE!"
"Sounds like someone's about to," said Tracy as Josh came boiling out of his door.
"Yes, sir?"
"I need the governors of Louisiana and Texas and someone from D.C. Metro. Also if for some reason you hear from or of Evangeline Hoynes, let me know right then."
"What's going on?" Tracy asked again.
"John's dead," said Josh. "He hung himself in his dressing room right after the debate."
"Way to steal C.J.'s thunder," said Tracy. "So am I safe now?"
"Depends," said Josh. "They can't find Angie."
Tracy frowned.
"She was at the debate," she said. "I saw her on TV during the introductions."
"She left early," said Josh, "and nobody knows where she went. There's no telling. I mean, when this woman gets something in her head, she does not let go."
"Tell me about it." Tracy shuddered. "Look how she waited to have Amy killed. It never went out of her mind, and she finally got it done."
"Yeah," said Josh. "Well, remember who else she set her mind to killing, and don't you set foot out of this building until we have her, okay?"
"Yes, sir."
"Don't glower, Toby," C.J. told him.
"Yes, ma'am."
"And don't call me that."
"Not to stress the obvious, but I think you'd better get used to it, although if you do that again, maybe not."
"Maybe not what?"
"What mistakes are there that it would not be better not to make, C.J.? They're mistakes! You don't want to...!"
"Leave her alone, Toby," Danny said, putting a drink in his hand.
"No," said C.J., "he's right. I wish he'd been there to write it for me, but that's why they call it a debate."
"You killed, you know," said Danny as he handed her a grasshopper. "That line killed."
"Can we not use that word?" sputtered Toby.
"She didn't kill him, Toby!"
"Guys," said C.J., "enough, okay?"
"Yes, ma'am."
"Okay, I think I'm going to like that part after all."
