2006 Part Ninety-nine

"Bernard?"
"I need a place to hide."
"Come in."
"Not here!"
"You'd rather wait in the street? Come inside and clean up while I think."
"It should not be a place that can be tied to you."
"Not a problem. We've handled everything we needed your skills for anyway."
"Handled ev...?"
"Oh, Bernard, don't be this way! If I walk away now it'll look like... well, like what it is! I can't just disappear!"
"Of course you can't. You love him."
"I love you."
"No."
"Yes. Yes, Bernard. How could you believe otherwise? I'll find a place where you'll be safe. Come inside."
The door to Amy's new room open, and a tall blonde girl smiled at Agent Alastair, who rose and took her bundle from her long enough to investigate it.
"Hi, Amy. I'm Donna, Josh's... fiancee. I don't guess you remember me, either?"
"Uh-uh. Were we friends?"
"I don't think you ever noticed me."
"So...."
"I thought you should meet her."
"The baby?"
"Yeah." Donna took the child from the agent and laid it in Amy's arms. "We call her Leonie."
The child looked toward Amy and swung a tiny fist.
"I like her attitude," said Amy, "but I don't know her."
"They said your hormones might kick in," said Donna, "when you saw her."
"No, nothing. Leonie? You named her after Leo?"
"You remember Leo?"
"Yeah. Little guy, right? But important, really important?"
"That's right. Has he been by?"
"I don't think so. Was I close to him?"
"Not that I ever heard. That's weird."
"Yeah, weird. I remember him, but not...." She clasped the baby's hand, but Leonie pulled away from her and flailed her fist against Amy's arm. "Does it bug you? Taking care of somebody else's baby?"
"She's Josh's baby."
"Yeah, I met Josh."
"Yeah."
"You'll take good care of her?"
"Yeah."
"Thank you."
"Do those shoes really go with that outfit?" Abbey asked.
"They're my wedding shoes," C.J. told her. "I read where you're supposed to wear them in."
"What are you wearing to Donna's wedding?"
"'Not a butt bow.' Other than that, she says she doesn't care."
"You're her maid of honor?"
"Yeah, and I've got a peach linen suit that'll do nicely. What are you wearing?"
"I was going to ask you to go shopping with me, to find something."
"I have to brief. All the guys have gone to Atlantic City for the bachelor party."
"Whose?"
"They're doubling up."
"C.J., do you feel okay?"
"I'd feel a lot better if you'd quit putting ideas in my fiance's head. I'm not pregnant."
"Are you sure?"
"Positive. I ruined Danny's favorite panties a couple of weeks ago."
"Sometimes you get your first period, you know. You should have the test."
"I'd rather be diabetic."
"You should be tested for that, too."
"After the wedding, okay?"
