I Don't Want to Know
2006 Part Ninety-eight
by Exfilia

"Abbey, I think C.J.'s sick."

"You think?"

"You heard about the other night?"

"When your girlfriend got caught sleeping with my husband?"

"Have you been reading the conservative papers again?"

"I'm surprised anyone in this building can keep their eyes open, Danny. Is that all that's wrong? Just fatigue?"

"She's got zits."

"Where?"

"Her face. Also she's... she can't stay out of the bathroom."

"Diarrhea?"

"Oh, no. She has to pee like every ten minutes. Also she has a headache all the time, and she's pissed one minute and crying the next. Abbey, I did an article on diabetes a while back...."

"Is there diabetes in her family?"

"I dunno."

"She doesn't eat a lot of sugar, does she?"

"No."

"Could she be pregnant?"

Danny didn't say anything for a long while. Then he turned around and sat down against the edge of Abbey's desk.

"I am such an idiot," he said.

"Good morning, Mr. President," said Josh.

"Where's Donna?"

"Home with Leonie. We couldn't get a nanny right away."

"That is the cutest name."

"She's a cute kid. I don't know how she managed it, but she's blonde."

"She has hair?"

"Yeah, three of 'em. Hang on. I've got pictures."

"You are pitiable. You know that?"

"Yeah, but she's gorgeous."

"She is. My girls were blonde until they were in their teens. I thought they were going to look like me, but they lucked out. That's not what I came to talk to you about, though."

"Trailer park insurance? It's the Blanchards."

"Hank Blanchard? The governor of Louisiana?"

"More probably a cousin in Congress. There's another branch of the family that has money in the largest manufactured housing firm...."

"...the company whose products would be used to replace at least some of the flattened trailers?"

"There's a bonus if you buy new ones instead of repairing existing housing. They call it upgrading the housing stock."

"It'll never stand up in court."

"There's an uncle and two cousins on the bench."

"I don't want to know. Do we know any of these bayou Borgias?"

"Just one, the governor's younger sister."

"Get her in here."

"Sir, it won't do any good. She's not a friend of ours."

"They're Democrats, right? Are you telling me there is a daughter of a political family who would turn down the President of the United States?"

"Trust me; she has no awe of anyone who might be in this office now or in the future."

"Josh?"

"Spit it out? Henri Blanchard has a sister three years younger than he is, a sister Evangeline who married John Hoynes. You really want to try to talk to her about working with this administration?"

"We've got to talk to somebody. I'm getting really tired of seeing this amendment at the end of every piece of legislation that crosses my desk. Make it happen, Josh. If you can't do it, find someone who can, but make it happen."
