Let's Give Them a Picture
2006 Part Ninety
by Exfilia

"Donna?"

"Hi, Josh. There's nothing going on, here."

"That's weird."

"Actually Leo said to tell you that."

"So what's really going on?"

"Not much. Mandy's back."

"Oh, God."

"She talked to C.J., and then to Toby. What's with her? She looks happier than anyone around here has since C.J. got engaged."

"Lock my office. No, clean it out and take my stuff to my apartment."

"How's Amy?"

"Out of surgery. They've still got her tubed up like a cyborg, though. Donna, she's not going to be able to take care of the baby. She... the kid'll be ready to go home the day after tomorrow. I know we talked about it before, but if you wanted to change your mind...."

"You still want to...?"

"Nothing in this world could make me not want you, Donna. Please, don't ever think that."

"So I guess we're going to need baby stuff?"

"Yeah. Yeah, could you take care of that? 'Cause I want to be here to talk to Amy about it when she wakes up."

"Got it," she said, and hung up. Leo was leaning on her partition again. "Where do you find out what kind of stuff you need for a baby?" she asked.

"How long do you have?"

"Two days."

"Then you ask someone who's been there. Come on, get your coat."

"You're back?" said C.J. as Danny slouched in her door.

"No, I'm still at the hospital keeping Josh sane."

"Well then," she said, settling her arms around him, "I won't do this to the strange man at my door."

"Good idea. I wouldn't do this, either," he said as his lips found hers.

"Mmm."

"Yeah."

"How's Amy?"

"Still out, but probably going to live."

"Good. Somebody needs to have a long talk with her."

"I said live, not wake up."

"Oh. Oh, that sucks." He pulled her tighter into his arms.

"It's not for sure. Could be just the First Lady angsting."

"Is that a word?"

"Annie uses it."

"Annie's eighteen."

"Annie's going to learn to fly. Did you know?"

"Am I related to anyone who instigated this?"

"Probably, but Leo's involved, too. The First Lady thinks it's a good idea."

"The First Lady thinks all sorts of strange things are good ideas," said C.J., stroking his beard with the back of one finger.

"Yeah, she's really big on the career change thing. It's scary."

"Mandy was here," said C.J., "and I didn't even have to tell her. She's working on, you know, after the wedding."

"It's really going to happen," he said.

"The wedding, or...?"

"PEOPLE!" Toby stormed up to them with an amused Mandy tagging behind. "Two print photographers and a video camera at the end of the hall, here!"

"Well, damn," said Danny, "let's give them a picture!" Then he grabbed the sputtering Toby and kissed him full on the mouth.
