'COMPOSITION

This 2-day workshop for beginning oil painters will present elements of composition in successful paintings, and strategies for composing landscape paintings, as a framework for life-long improvement of their own artwork.  

After an introductory discussion of the topic of composition, illustrated by analysis of well-composed paintings, students will apply selected composition strategies in designing their own original paintings.  Each student will receive feedback from Virginia and from class members using the concepts discussed in the introductory lecture.

Students will use the Plein Air landscape for reference material, weather permitting.  If weather is bad, students will paint indoors from their own landscape photos.
