British Motorcar restoration became an interest of mine one day while I was visiting a car show in Kansas City.  I happened to be driving by a popular city park and saw several cars displayed in the parking lot.  I pulled over on a whim and was instantly drawn to a Triumph Car Club that had several TR3's, TR6's and one lone 1965 Spitfire that caught my eye.  From that point on I committed to myself that I would own one of these cars one day.

My first experience in British auto restoration began a few years later when I stumbled onto a car that I named Fergie.  I bought her for less than $1000, put $3000 into her and sold her for $6500.  Investment?  Not an easy one considering the blood, sweat and tears involved.

I have found, however,  that taking a car that most people have never seen, which most likely is destined to a scrap pile and breathing new life into it is more satisfying than I could imagine.   I have since tried my hand at other makes and models, but the Spitfire continues to call my name.

This Week's Repair
This week the upgrade to my Spit project is a new muffler.  The rest of the exhaust system is fairly good shape, but the rear muffler is in horrible condition.

It was almost impossible to get the old one off, but the new one went on like a champ.  Just a quick note:  The best price on the muffler was at Spitbits @ $59.99.  Far cheaper than any other supplier.

A Spitfire Historical Moment

The Triumph Spitfire Mk2 was produced for only two and a half years.  It had an 1147cc engine that was pretty peppy, but was not quite hot enough for the American consumer.   The Mk3 which came out into production in early 1967 was a 1296cc version that added around 12 miles per hour in the top end.  The Mk3 also changed the front end of the Spitfires by raising the bumper nine inches to accommodate American safety standards.

This car is named Brit.  She is a 1967 Mk2 that is in full restoration as we speak.
