STEPS TO HEALING
4 Sing to the LORD, you saints of his; praise his holy name.
5 For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.
Psalms 30:4-5 (NIV)
Not long ago, I was privileged to speak to a woman's group about healing. In that audience and for all of us, if we are honest with ourselves, we all have hurts that need the healing touch of God. We may not be able to admit the extent of our pain to others. We search for a clear answer of what to do. Although we may never understand God's healing process, and His plan is not as simple as a cookbook recipe, there are some concepts that appear repeatedly in the Bible. We will explore some of them in today's message. The message format will be different from our previous messages, requiring you to do some Bible reading and meditation on your own.
Steps to Healing
Admit the hurt, that the bitter root may exist or is beginning to take hold.
Hebrews 12:14-15
John 8:31-32
We have all been hurt, suffering a wound or injury that gives us mental pain. When we ignore that hurt, we let a bitter root take hold. It is that root that will cause us further trouble. Are there secondary motivations in staying hurt? If we cannot admit there is a problem, there is no reason to find a solution. Jesus offers us freedom when we understand and accept the truth.
2. Know who you are, God's precious creation.
Psalms 139:14
John 10:10
God does not make junk. He declared mankind good at creation, so we are special in God's eyes. He offers pardon for our sins through the blood of Jesus. We may stumble but, with God's help, we can get up.
