Supplementing with Whole Foods: It Only Makes Sense

Trying to "eat a good diet", as many suggest, turns out to be unsatisfactory. It is well-known that our food, water and air are compromised. In his audio tape, Food for Thought, veterinarian, Dr. Keith Jeffries says that today it takes 75 bowls of spinach  to equal the iron content of 1 bowl just 50 years ago. He also uses graphic  terms describing all of us as "metabolically starved"  and "starvation at the cellular level." He goes on to say that, in this country, we find ourselves in the paradoxical position that 3/4 of us are starving while overeating. Farming protocols, pesticides, herbicides, fractionated fertilizers, and more, have taken such a toll that our food supply may be forever substandard. This is very scary!

Lately, I've been listening to a lot of health oriented audio tapes.  Listening to the doctors on the tapes talk about the Harvard, Framingham and  other studies, has made me suddenly  acutely aware of the dangers of single nutrients.  I remember hearing about the results of these studies on the news, but since I don't trust the news media to report accurately, I didn't pay close attention. The doctors on the tapes I've been listening to do not have any reason to distort what they are reporting, however,  so it has made me take another look at the data, which confirms that supplementing with parts of the whole is worse than not supplementing at all.

As I said above, eating the foods available to us isn't enough. We all really must supplement if we're to have a prayer at providing our bodies with adequate nutrition. I've always felt that the solution to supplementation was whole foods, but it hadn't been brought home to me so clearly that the Vit C, Vit E,  beta-carotene, etc supplements are actually  harmful until I began hearing about the study results. It makes sense, because I've long known that 1) synthetic vitamins, etc are not absorbed the same way as the natural ones, often being harmful  and 2) with amino acids, for example, if you're deficient in one essential one, you will be deficient in all of them. The amount taken in is only as good as the lowest common denominator.

That brings me back to the conclusion that the number one health priority is to "eat right", that is, a balance of nutrients, with macronutrient emphasis skewed for your metabolism.  (This means that carnivores should eat animals, humans who are carbohydrate intolerant should skew their carb intake to low-glycemic index carbohydrate from vegetable sources, and so forth.) Number two is to drink only purified water. The third component is to supplement with whole foods in a concentrated form.

"Eating right" is probably not something which is possible for most of us. I think it would entail raising our own food to ensure that we knew the source, that it was organic, etc. The next best thing is to buy organic food, but I don't have a source for myself and my animals and I suspect many of you don't either. Therefore, if you are in the same boat I am,  the requirement for the whole food supplements becomes paramount.

I have found some whole food supplements and I want to share them with you. In addition, I want to include another specific supplement which is not a food per se,  but is important because it enhances the reactions in our bodies. Most of these products are marketed through network marketing companies, an approach whose philosophy I share. Both at the top of this page and below are links to information about  the products I have found and their sources. The first product to consider can be purchased directly through my company web page at  http://www.juiceplus.com/+el69129, for the others, please do not order on line. Either follow the directions I give at the end of each section or call or email me at 603-673-3263  or pawsreflect@earthlink.net  I hope these whole foods and related products will benefit you and your families, both human and non-human as they have mine.

The Builder/A Parable on Nutrition
-author unknown

An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his
employer-contractor of his plans to leave the housebuilding business and
live a more leisurely life with his wife, enjoying his extended family.
He would miss the paycheck, but he needed to retire. They could get by.

The contractor was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could
build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter said yes,
but in time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work. He
resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an
unfortunate way to end his career.

When the carpenter finished his work and the builder came to inspect the
house, the contractor handed the front-door key to the carpenter. "This
is your house," he said, "my gift to you."

What a shock! What a shame! If he had only known he was building his own
house, he would have done it all so differently. Now he had to live in
the home he had built none too well.

So it is with us. We build our lives in a distracted way, reacting
rather than acting, willing to put up less than the best. At important
points we do not give the job our best effort. Then with a
shock we look at the situation we have created and find that we are now
living in the house we have built. If we had realized, we would have
done it differently.

Think of yourself as the carpenter. Think about your body as your home.
Each day you hammer a nail (fuel your body), place a board (with
nutrition or junkfood), or erect a wall (strengthen or deplete those
vital cells). BUILD WISELY.  It is the only life you will ever build
(the only body you'll ever receive). Even if you live it for only one
day more, that day deserves to be lived graciously  and with dignity.
The plaque on the wall says, "Life is a do-it-yourself project."

Who could say it more clearly? Your life today is the result of your
attitudes and choices in the past. YOUR LIFE TOMORROW WILL BE THE RESULT
OF YOUR ATTITUDE AND THE CHOICES YOU MAKE TODAY!

The life span of our bodies' cells: Heart (90 - 92 days); Muscles (14
months); Organs & Glands (3  - 5 months); Bone (3 1/2 years); Blood (124
days); Skin (1 - 2 days); Stomach (1-2 hours). Out of the 27 trillion
cells that make up our body, around 140 million are going to die
each day. As they do, our body is going to attempt to replace them. The
biggest question is, "What are these new cells going to be made of?  If
our body is forced to use second-rate, substitute material or
nutrient-depleted food, our cells will be weak and puny. If a contractor
used Styrofoam and sticks in his concrete instead of steel and rocks,
how well would the concrete support a bridge? The same is true of our
bodies. Why do people keep getting hungry between meals? Even on a full
stomach our body is searching to get the nutrients it needs to build
healthy cells. When our body can't find what it needs, it signals the
brain to eat more. The result is millions of people suffering from
malnourishment. They feel poorly because their body is regenerating
cells made of "Styrofoam and sticks rather than "steel and rocks."

The biology of your life begins with a strong foundation.  What are
you waiting for?  Let's begin today!
