History of Paladen Kennels

Paladen Kennels began in 1979 with the birth of my first purebred GSP, purchased as a hunting dog and companion.  After much time and effort, she later became a Champion and obedience-titled Companion Dog, and enthusiastic hunting dog. Since then, my road in purebred dogs has taken several turns in the interest of improving upon my breeding program.

With this new outlet for my lifelong passion for pets, I dove actively into tracking, obedience, field, and the show ring.  For more than 15 years I trained working dogs for the hearing-impaired and physically handicapped, and ran several companion animal programs for non-profit agencies.  I worked in ‘rescue’ and dog clubs, and am currently the President of the G.S.P. Club of Orange County, and member of Orange Empire Dog Club, the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of America, the American Pointer Club, the Pointer Club (England), and the Southern Pointer Club (England). I have judged several conformation Sweepstakes and Matches (Sporting breeds) and plan someday to pursue my A.K.C. judging license.

My start in Pointers actually preceded that of the GSP, as I had already adopted a rescued Pointer needing a home in 1978.  A few years later, I helped a friend grade his first Pointer litter, and I fell in love with the puppy deemed to be “a pet” by his co-breeder, since she was “mismarked”.  This was a great stroke of luck for me, as my “mismarked” girl finished her title easily, and became a producer of many champions for Paladen.  Her daughter, Ch. Paladen's English Garden, became the home-bred foundation bitch of Paladen Pointers, producing one litter by my first English import, Am. Ch. Galema Harvester, J.H. ('Bracken').  Bracken's genetic influence is still very apparent today in the strong hunting instincts and gentle temperaments of his descendents.

Over the years, Paladen bred and/or owned dogs have earned more than 100 titles (in various A.K.C. and foreign dog sport venues), with numerous American Pointer Club national awards and many prestigious wins.  Most importantly, many healthy, gentle, and intelligent dogs have been shared with loving households.

Paladen is not a commercial breeding kennel. On occasion, our home-raised Paladen puppies, started dogs, and retired champions may be available. GREAT permanent, caring homes are invited to inquire.  To contact me about your specific interest, please use the PALADEN KENNELS link to go to the email inquiry form on the Home page.
