Programs
for Texas Instruments TI-83 Plus:
Click on the link to the program you want to download. Upon completion, if it
doesn't automatically unstuff, open it in Stuffit Expander. You will
need Stuffit Expander to convert these files to a format readable by your calculator;
get a free copy from Aladdin Systems.
Then, connect your calculator to the computer, and drag the program into the
calculator window to copy it to your calculator for your personal use.
Get Best
Fit Line
Based on a list you've entered into the STAT EDIT dialog and
you have graphed using the STAT PLOT feature, you can use Best Fit Line to create
a Best Fit line for your data. It simply automates the numerous keypresses needed
to calculate and display the line. You can view the equation for the line by
pressing the "Y=" key once the line has been drawn.
Get Binomial
Probability
This allows you, to calculate the probability of an event happening
repeatedly, if there are only two outcomes, and a given trial does not influence
further outcomes. Under "Total Trials", you enter in the total number
of trials (x). Under "Event A Occurs", you enter how many times the
expected outcome actually occurred (y). Under "Probability A Occurs",
you enter the probability of that outcome occuring, from 0 (never) to 1 (always).
The program will then display the probability of the outcome occurring x times
out of y trials.
Get Distance
This program will calculate the distance between two points
in (X,Y) format.
Get Equation
Often times, the end result of an equation will be irrational,
and it can sometimes be hard to go back to the last step. Equation allows you
to enter in the variable coefficient and the value on the other side of the
equality, and it will then simplify it into both the lowest-terms fraction form
and the decimal form.
Get Find
GCF
This program is quite simple. It simply gives you the Greatest
Common Factor of any two real numbers.
Get Insect
This program, based on a hypothetical situation involving a
flying and non-flying insect, determines the shortest distance between two points
in a room (the southeast corner at the floor and northwest corner at the ceiling
for example). It displays the shortest distance that a land-crawling insect
could take to reach the point, and also the distance for a flying insect (straight
up and across).
Get Midpoint
Formula
Using this program, you can calculate the midpoint of a line
segment with the two user-defined ends being two distinct points on the coordinate
plane.
Get Profit
This program is a simple accounting program. It prompts you
for Total Revenue, and then asks you for Gross Profit, and then Operating Expenses.
Taxes are assumed to be at 40%, though that can be easily edited. It tells you
the Net Profit before Taxes, Taxes, Net Profit after Taxes, and Percent Profit.
Get Pythagorean
Theorem
Using the Pythagorean Theorem, this will allow you to enter
in the length of two legs of a right triangle and will then tell you the length
of the hypotenuse. If the exact length cannot be displayed, the answer sqaured
will be displayed along with an approximation as to the exact answer.
Get Quadratic
Formula
This program solves an equation in the form Ax2 +
Bx + C using the Quadratic formula, given the real number values of A, B, and
C.
Get Transition
Matrices
This is a program
for transition between A, B, and C. It prompts you for the beginning values
for each variable, then prompts you for perecentages moving to and from each
group. After entering them all in percentage form (.08 for eight percent), it
will tell you the resulting totals for A, B, and C.
Get Work
Problems
This Add portion of this program solves problems such
as "If one man can paint a house in two hours, and another can in five,
how long will it take them to do it together". Just enter 2 and 5 as the
A and B values, and the program returns the length it takes them to complete
the work together. The Subtract portion allows you to do this in reverse;
enter the time if the two work together in A, the time for one worker in B,
and it returns the time for the other worker.
