The Jet Set ScooterLab

The Italian motorscooter of the 1950's and 60's was not intended to be an object of nostalgia or misty eyed retro whatever-ism. It was the ideal expression of a culture that had been reduced to rubble by war and was re-inventing itself according a modern, efficient and forward thinking ideal. The dream of the turn of the century Futurists - to destroy museums and embrace all that is fast, streamlined and sleek came to pass in post-war Italy. The teardrop GS and slimstyle Lambretta were up to date as possible with their clean lines hiding simple but effective and constantly improving automotive technology. The first two wheeled vehicle fitted with a standard disk brake was a Lambretta.

This page is offered as a way to more fully understand the technology and engineering of the classic Italian motorscooter, both as it was built originally, and how it can be improved upon in the spirit of the Futurists, Modernists, and performance tuners of the day. Faster is better, and it's best to look good when you are going fast.

Here the Jet Set members will share their experiences with the esoteric arts of scooter mechanics. No guarantee of the safety or effectiveness of any of this stuff is in anyway implied, and the Jet Set Scooter Club, Yoyodyne Propulsion Systems, and club members disavow all responibility for their misguided actions. Remember, most of the Futurists died in the first world war trying to create a new and gleaming society.
