Here's some basic info about me:

* Birthplace: Denver, Colorado

* Birthdate: June 10 (the same as Judy Garland; Ethan Allen (Vermont hero of the American Revolution), author Maurice Sendak; composer Richard Strauss; Academy Award-winning actress Hattie McDaniel; actresses Elizabeth Hurley and June Haver; actors Ray Bolger, Kevin Corcoran, Doug McKeon, Sal Mineo, and Andrew Stevens (OK, so Andrew is not much of an actor); Oscar-winning composer Frederick Loewe; musicians Pat Benetar, Jim Croche, Howlin' Wolf, Max Roach, and Rod Stewart, novelist William Styron; astronaut James McDivitt; attorney F. Lee Bailey, skater Tara Lipinski; and the Chicago Tribune -- quite the eclectic mix!)

* Education: I attended high school in Aurora, Colorado. In 1976, I earned a B.S. in zoology and psychology at Colorado State University in Ft. Collins. During my junior & senior years, I was the career development group paraprofessional in the University Counseling Center.

I earned my Ph.D. in counseling psychology at Iowa State University in Ames and completed my predoctoral internship in psychology at the University of Texas at Austin Counseling and Psychological Services Center.

* Employment: For a more detailed overview, take a look at my vita.

After working one year at UT post-internship, I spent five years on staff of the Western Connecticut State University Counseling Center in Danbury, Connecticut. I enjoyed getting to know New England and New York City during my time there and still miss the glorious fall colors.

In 1989, my partner and I moved to Chicago and I began work at UIC in the Counseling Center. I was on staff there through August '96 and coordinated the InTouch Hotline for two years. I then served as founding director for the Office of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Concerns at UIC. Our office was commissioned in July, 1994 and opened its doors to the public in November 1994. (We added "Transgender" to the name in 1998). This is the only campus office in metro-Chicago with full-time professional staff exclusively assigned to serve GLBT communities. I left the office in July 2000 to explore other career pathways. My current job, however, is at Rush University as the coordinator for accreditation processes for the Rush Medical College. I also work with curriculum and evaluation concerns, and am our liaison to the NBME.

I was quite active in the American College Personnel Association. I also created the original home page for the National Consortium of Directors of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Resources in Higher Education (and managed a listserv for the Consortium) and created the original web site for UIC's Office of Women's Affairs.

Some of my other web work (alone or in collaboration) includes A Real Read (Chicago's premiere African-American lesbigaytrans performance ensemble), Connie Dugan's speech therapy site, Get In The House (a house concert site), and QUIC: UIC's GLBT Homepage. Some of these sites have had some makeovers by others since I moved on.

In the mid-90s, I was part of a delegation that went to Romania to help set up an AIDS Hotline in Constantza. The lesbigay community there, in tandem with efforts from the European Union finally got homosexuality decriminalized (though social acceptance of gay and lesbian people has a long way to go there). Lend them your support.

* Relationship: My partner is Bill Karnoscak. He is the Registrar at Rush University. Prior to that, he was the manager of the McCormick Educational Technology Center, also at Rush University. We celebrated our 25th anniversary on November 22, 2005! To celebrate, we went to Paris for nine nights!

* Parenthood: We are caretakers of three felines: Merlin, Mason, and Molly.

* Travel: Check out my photos from our cruise through southeast Alaska in June 2000. (I know, who wants to look at someone's vacation pics?) If you haven't been, I hope these photos help inspire you to travel to this amazingly beautiful place.
