uncollected poems
for 2002+ Annotated Archival Edition
by Gene Fowler
In June 2007, I have finally made the link on the table of book
pointing to uncollected poems live and am typing the first of
these into what will have the look of a chapbook like those on this
table. I may be a little lazy about typing poems that tended, in wild
mimeo-revolution days, to spread all over an 8½ x 11 page, but I've
been lazy about all else and these poems, too, will be included.
All through the sixties and seventies I lived largely by crashes and
dinner invitations and the kindness of friends and strangers. Boxes of
belongings were often lost in moving them from one person's garage to
another's. Even in 1975, when Paul foreman and I sat in a coffee house
and built the acknowledgements page for Fires: Selected Poems 1963 -
1976, I could not recall magazines with generous people and lively
names I was half sure belonged in the list or others I could simply not
recall at all. I'm sure poems exist on pages turning brown in attics and
basements I have no memory of having written.... But a few things are in
this house and some, maybe most, of those are in a stack for typing. I'm
going to add in a second section and put in a few things from these late
days when, in this opened cyberswirl the boudaries of a poem's core are
permeable and materials seemingly extraneous are within the poem. This
is a tease, in a sense, so you may go looking for me in this 21st
century and with its literary and publishing, presentation of the work,
nature. Not much of this. My site space is about filled....
