1. 2006 Sirch, Ribolla Gialla, Colli Orientali del Friuli,

From a family owned estate in the Colli Orientali has 7 hectares planted with classic Fruili
varietals such as Tocai Friulano, Malvasia Istriana and Ribolla Gialla, plus Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio, Merlot and Refosco.
Pierpaolo, Luca and their father Giordano Sirch run the estate,
Their Ribolla Gialla, from the rare 'Yellow' Ribolla grape,
shows a floral nose followed by lovely bright lemons, with a mineral freshness on the palate.
2. 2006 Volpe Pasini,
Pinot Grigio, "Grivo," Venezia Giulia, Italy $8 gl $32 btl
Volpe Pasini is located in the heart of the
area Doc Colli Orientali del Friuli, and is one of
the oldest wineries in the North East of Italy.
The heart of
the company, with its offices and cellars, is composed of a manor house, whose original dates back to 1596.
Pinot Gris
is a grape originally of Hungarian origin. This wine is pale yellow in color, a slightly fruity wine with hints of dry hay,
walnuts and toasted almonds.
3. 2006 Cascina Val Del Prete, Roero Arneis, Italy $9gl $36 btl
Val del
Prete, or valley of the priest, takes its name from the exiled Bishop of Asti who lived there in 1850.
Arneis is an historical
grape from the Roero district. This wine from the Lučt vineyard is fermented 40% in French oak and 60% in stainless steel.
The wine is rich and aromatic with stonefruit flavors and a nice acidity to the finish

This wine is made up of 50% Carignan, 25% Syrah and 25% Cinsault, and the vines are over schist soils.
The
nose of this wine develops pleasantly fruity aromas of cherry, cassis and blackberry with a backdrop of spicy oak notes and
liquorice.
The mouthfeel is medium blue fruits with fine tannins and finishes with flavors of cassis and cherries.

2001 Ch. Mirausse, "Le Grand Penchant," Minervois, Fr $8 gl $32 btl
This winery is located in Badens
due east of Carcassonne in the south west part of Minervois. The wine is made up of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah. It shows
surprisingly good acidity for a 2001 vintage, with a touch of coco and dark cherries, followed by medium plummy fruit and
a bit of blackberry on the long finish
3. 2006 Pech-Redon, "Les Cades," La Clape, Coteaux du Languedoc,
Fr $6.5 gl $26 btl
This is a blend of 40% each of Grenache and Syrah with 20% Carignan.
The wine shows a
nose of dried cherries and black currants which leads to ripe, yet beautifully-delineated sweet black fruits tinged with herbs.
